My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 40

The main hospital oversaw three separate branch campuses.

At the Director level, doctors were scheduled for outpatient shifts at the branch hospitals every week.

"What about you?" Sampson asked.

"Pretty much the same." Wendy turned her laptop screen toward him to show her schedule for the next day.

On the spreadsheet, her administrative duties, surgeries, standard consultations, and teaching requirements were all color-coded.

Sampson took one look and his eyes practically crossed.

"...This is the first time I've ever visually comprehended your workload."

"Aren't you glad you never had to be a Chief Resident in this country?"

Whenever the topic turned to work, Wendy always grew a bit more talkative.

"Honestly, this workload is actually decent."

"I'm just praying I don't get hit with any emergency consultations tomorrow."

As she spoke, she set down her fork and tapped the trackpad on her laptop a few times.

Question mark.

Sampson looked over, clearly confused. "What are you doing?"

"A digital zen chime."

Wendy pushed the laptop closer to him.

In the bottom right corner of the screen, every time Wendy clicked, a little cartoon rabbit struck a singing bowl: Karma +1, Karma +1, Karma +1...

Sampson gave her a look.

"Click it." Wendy's hands were covered in chili oil, so she nudged Sampson with her elbow, urging him on.

"It totally works! It's exactly like putting an apple on the on-call phone to keep the emergencies away. You click it too, let's pray together that we get to clock out on time tomorrow."

Sampson: "...No thank you."

Wendy didn't push it. "Suit yourself."

Pushing the laptop aside, they started eating.

Locals loved peanut sauce.

Wendy had ordered extra sauce for her bowl, mixing the cilantro and garlic perfectly together before taking a massive bite.

"So good!"

Wendy didn't actually want to share; she was just being polite.

She figured anyone with severe OCD had to be a total germaphobe anyway.

"Sure." Sampson nodded.

"Oh, it's fine if you don't want— Wait, sure?"

...She misjudged him again!

Wendy raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "I thought you were a germaphobe."

"Just a little."

Sampson watched her movements.

He watched as she picked out the cilantro and dropped it into his bowl, her lips pressing together in a very slight, reluctant pout.

Even though it was probably inappropriate, one specific phrase definitely crossed Sampson's mind right then: completely territorial.

Regular check-ins were clearly a good idea.

Today, he had discovered a brand new, hidden side of his new wife.
