Seraphina didn't let up. "When Sienna faked her pregnancy, you blamed me. Now that Sienna stole my data to hand over to Sebastian, you're blaming me again."

"Why is it that every time Sienna does something reckless, I'm the one expected to clean up her mess and take the fall?"

Samuel's voice lost its volume. "Sera, she's your sister..."

"Did I ever acknowledge her as one?"

Seraphina's voice turned to ice. "You want me to let the Sullivans off the hook? Fine. But I have two conditions."

Samuel perked up, thinking she had actually relented. "What conditions?"

"First, the Sullivan family issues a formal, public apology."

"Second, Sienna apologizes to me in person and confesses that she was the one who stole my files to give to Sebastian."

The silence on the other end stretched on indefinitely.

When Samuel finally spoke, the words seemed to scrape against his throat. "Sera, Sienna is..."

Seraphina cut him off, entirely uninterested in his excuses. "If you can't manage that, then forget it."

"We'll go through the proper legal channels, and you can see exactly where the Simmons family's reputation ends up after that."

Samuel didn't say another word.

Seraphina gave him three seconds. When no response came, she stated coolly, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."

Panic finally cracked Samuel's composure. "Wait."

"Let me think about it."

"Fine."

Seraphina ended the call and tossed her phone onto the desk.

From her belly, Little Bean's voice echoed softly in her mind. "Mom, do you really want Sienna to apologize to your face? Is she actually going to agree to that?"

The corners of Seraphina's lips lifted slightly. "She won't."

"Then why did you ask for it?"

"I didn't ask so she would agree. I asked so Samuel would realize this isn't something he can just brush under the rug."
