Gillian had run a background check on Sebastian immediately after the birthday banquet.
And it was a disaster.
His romantic history was a complete trainwreck, surrounded by nothing but red flags and toxic rumors.
Yolanda might have seemed sharp on paper, but when it came to matters of the heart, she was completely inexperienced.
She was absolutely no match for someone like Sebastian.
Gillian was genuinely terrified her sister was going to get burned.
Beatrice paused, glancing up at her daughter. "I knew. She mentioned him to me. Said they went to university together in the UK and that he was a decent guy."
"How much do you actually know about the Sullivan family, Mom?" Gillian asked.
Beatrice thought for a moment. "They're an old-money family here in the city. They might not be as powerful as they used to be, but they still have a solid foundation. I met the Sullivan boy once. He's handsome, well-spoken, seems alright. Why? Do you think it's a bad match?"
Gillian set her teacup down, choosing her words carefully. "It's not that I think it's a bad match. I just think Sebastian Sullivan is far more complicated than he's letting on."
"What do you mean?"
"I had some people look into him. He was engaged before. To Seraphina. Then, for some unknown reason, the engagement was called off, and he instantly hooked up with Seraphina's stepsister. And now, that blew up too. Moving on to Yolanda... he swaps women out way too fast."
Beatrice frowned. "He was engaged?"
"Yes." Gillian nodded. "And do you remember the banquet? When Yolanda brought him over, the way he was staring at Seraphina... it wasn't normal."
Beatrice tried to recall the moment but eventually shook her head. "I didn't catch that."
"I saw it perfectly. That wasn't the look you give a stranger." Gillian's tone grew serious. "Mom, I'm worried Yolanda is going to get her heart broken."
Beatrice fell silent for a long moment before finally speaking.
