Lawrence sighed. "Having a boy or a girl isn't something anyone can control. Besides, even if he does have a son, so what? What belongs to our branch of the Langford family isn't going anywhere."
He refused to believe Lucian would dare hoard everything for himself.
Wouldn't he worry about the public backlash?
"What do you know!" Charlene shot him a glare. "Eleanor might not say it out loud, but she's always favored Lucian. Look at The Langford Group's core businesses right now—every single one is in Lucian's grip! And what about us? We get the scraps!"
Lawrence opened his mouth to argue but snapped it shut.
Because everything Charlene said was true.
He hadn't had much of a presence in the company over the years. It wasn't that he didn't want to fight for his share; he simply couldn't win.
Lucian was ruthless, never leaving an inch of breathing room.
Just then, a commotion echoed from the entryway.
"Landon is back!" a maid announced, her voice bubbling with pleasant surprise.
Landon strolled through the doors, handing his luggage off to the staff.
He swept a glance over the tense scene in the living room and offered a casual smile.
"Dad, Mom. I'm home."
Charlene's demeanor flipped instantly. She hurried over with a beaming smile, grabbing her son's hands and looking him up and down. "You've lost weight. Were you not eating well in the UK?"
"Mom, I ate just fine," Landon replied, smoothly pulling his hands free. He dropped onto the sofa and crossed his legs. "What were you guys arguing about? I could hear you from the door."
Charlene shot Lawrence a warning look before sitting down next to her son, picking up the portfolio of socialites again.
"Landon, you're not getting any younger. I've picked out a few excellent girls for you. Take a look and see if anyone catches your eye."
