My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 38

The truth was, she just didn't want to drag him into her mess.

Their marriage was strictly contractual, and she felt like she was constantly causing him trouble.

Lucian stared at her, deadpan. "Do I look like an idiot to you?"

Not even a toddler would buy an excuse like that.

Seraphina went silent.

Suddenly, his fingers gently gripped her chin, tilting her face toward the light. Lucian's brow furrowed tightly. "It's completely swollen. Are you stupid? Did you just stand there and let them hit you?"

Seraphina pressed her lips together, refusing to answer.

She hadn't expected Samuel to actually strike her out of nowhere.

Susan rushed over with an ice pack. Getting a clear look at Seraphina's face, she gasped. "Oh my god, ma'am, what happened? It's so swollen!"

"She bumped into something," Lucian replied dryly.

He took the ice pack from Susan's hands.

Susan furrowed her brow.

Bumped into something?

It was obviously a handprint.

She clearly didn't believe a word of it.

"Thank you, Susan." Seraphina hated being a burden. "I can do it myself."

"I'll do it," Lucian intervened.

Susan had worked for Lucian for years, and she had never once seen him pay this much attention to a woman.

She hid a secret smile. "Ma'am, it's hard to hold it in place yourself. Just let Mr. Langford help you."

"But..."

How could she ask him to wait on her?

Seraphina shifted uncomfortably.

Before she could argue, Lucian stepped closer with the ice pack.

The freezing temperature hit her bruised skin, causing her to involuntarily shiver.

Noticing her reaction, Lucian immediately lightened his touch. "Does it hurt?"
