Seraphina kept her unwavering gaze on Melody. "Unless, you were already standing right here."
Little Bean was practically cheering in his mind: "Beautiful!"
"Mommy, that was a legendary logical smackdown! Zero curse words but maximum damage! I give it a perfect score!"
Melody's expression stiffened for a fraction of a second before melting back into her victimized facade.
"I was simply walking by."
Lucian moved to step into the pond to pull Seraphina out, but she stopped him. "Don't. I can climb out myself. You'll just ruin your clothes if you come in..."
Lucian completely ignored her protest and vaulted directly into the freezing water.
Melody watched as Lucian's expensive clothes were instantly ruined, clinging wetly to his frame, yet he didn't seem to care in the slightest.
She clenched her jaw tight, practically vibrating with fury.
Lucian was a notoriously meticulous man, yet he broke his own rules over and over again, exclusively for Seraphina.
He waded to Seraphina's side and reached out to support her.
She shook her head. "Get Evie out first. She's terrified."
Lucian gave a slight nod and lifted his sister out of the water.
Evie was shivering violently. She wrapped her arms securely around his neck, refusing to let go. "Lucian, I'm so scared."
"It's fine," Lucian comforted her in a low voice. "The koi pond is shallow, you aren't going to drown."
Evie's lips twitched in annoyance.
Seraphina climbed out of the water. The moment her feet hit the pavement, her legs felt like lead, heavy and exhausted.
Susan immediately rushed over and draped a thick, warm towel over Seraphina's trembling shoulders.
"Thank you."
Lucian stepped over and took the towel, beginning to gently dry Seraphina's hair. "Let me."
Evie froze mid-shiver. "Lucian."
Her jealousy was flaring up again.
But Lucian acted as if he hadn't heard her, focusing entirely on drying his wife's hair.
Standing beside Evie in a display of faux-sympathy, Melody let out a soft, venomous sigh. "Evie, it seems you just don't have Seraphina's luck."
