Melody paused for dramatic effect before continuing her performance. "I saw Ms. Simmons drag Evie into the water."
Every eye shifted back to Seraphina.
Instead of getting angry, Seraphina let out a soft laugh, her lips curving upward. "It was nothing more than my survival instinct."
"I was caught off guard and panicked, so I just grabbed whatever was closest to steady myself. I didn't expect..."
Evie glared at her, her face pale, and spat through gritted teeth, "I think you did it on purpose."
"If you hadn't knocked me into the water in the first place, I wouldn't have grabbed you," Seraphina replied, holding Evie's gaze. "So, it seems we simply had to suffer together."
"Lucian, look at your wife! She's completely twisting the truth!"
Lucian stared at his sister, profound disappointment in his eyes.
He had always pampered Evie. No matter how unreasonable she acted, he usually indulged her.
But what happened today crossed a line. He absolutely would not let it slide.
"Evie, you are clearly in the wrong here. Apologize to Seraphina, and we will leave it at that."
Before his words could even settle, Evie's face contorted with outrage. "You want me to apologize? Never!"
Lucian seemed fully prepared for that reaction. His tone hardened instantly. "Then you can go stand in the family study and reflect on exactly why you pushed Seraphina."
Evie stared at him, utterly stunned. In her entire life, Lucian had never spoken to her with such harsh authority.
Now, for the sake of an outsider, he was actually punishing her.
"Lucian, you are unbelievable. You're actually making me stand in the study like a child, all for an outsider?" Evie's eyes widened, tears of anger and heartbreak welling up.
Lucian remained silent, his stance completely unyielding.
Gritting her teeth, Evie turned her desperate gaze toward Eleanor.
Right now, Eleanor was the only one who could save her.
