The very next second—
A powerful force hit her.
Seraphina was shoved away.
She stumbled back a few steps, nearly falling over, only managing to steady herself by grabbing the edge of a nearby table.
Lucian stood there, staring down at her with commanding authority.
His eyes were as cold as December frost.
He glanced down at the spot on his suit where her hands had been—looking at it as if checking for dirt.
Then, he spoke.
"Get out. Don't you know I despise women?"
His voice wasn't loud.
But it felt like a bucket of ice water poured straight over her head.
Seraphina froze exactly where she stood.
The entire hall fell into a deathly silence once more.
The guests, who had just been whispering, were now holding their breath.
Who did Lucian Langford just tell to get out?
He told Seraphina to get out.
All the color drained from Seraphina's face in an instant.
Little Bean's voice exploded in her belly: "Ahhhh! Daddy, what are you doing?! That's Mommy! How could you tell her to get out?!"
"He's playing hard to get! Mommy, don't be sad. Once he falls in love with you, he'll be totally whipped."
No one else heard it, only Seraphina.
Refusing to give up, Seraphina stepped forward again and grabbed Lucian's arm.
Seeing this, Samuel nearly passed out on the floor.
That wretched daughter!
He rushed over, bowing subserviently. "Mr. Langford, I am so sorry. My daughter isn't right in the head today. Please, be the bigger person and don't take offense to her madness."
Sebastian hurried over as well, his face a mix of pale and green. "Mr. Langford, I apologize for my lack of discipline. I'm sorry she offended you. I'll take her away immediately—"
But Seraphina's hand was already wrapped tightly around Lucian's wrist.
It was a strong wrist, with well-defined bones and blue veins visible beneath the skin.
