She got up, washed her face, and headed downstairs to grab a bowl of fresh fruit.
Noticing her slightly dampened mood, Susan asked with concern, "Are you feeling unwell, ma'am?"
"No, I just slept too long. I'm a bit groggy."
"Why don't you take a walk in the gardens to get some fresh air?" Susan suggested with a warm smile. "Mr. Langford explicitly asked us to make sure you stay active for the baby's health."
Seraphina nodded, slipping on a pair of comfortable flats before wandering out into the sunlit gardens.
Just as she reached the edge of the lawn, her phone suddenly started buzzing.
It was a video call from Lucian.
Seraphina's finger hovered over the screen, her heart unexpectedly skipping a beat.
Taking a deep breath, she tapped the accept button.
"You're awake?" Lucian's deep, clear voice resonated through the speaker.
"Yeah," she replied softly. "Just got up a little while ago."
"Have you eaten?"
"Not yet. Susan is cooking."
"Alright," Lucian noted, pausing for a moment.
After a beat of hesitation, Seraphina finally asked, "Are you... still busy?"
"Just finished up. I'm back at the hotel."
"I see. Actually, my dad called me today. He said the company was in trouble, and he even apologized for slapping me. Were you the one who retaliated?"
"I did it. As long as he apologizes to you, they'll get the project back."
"There's no need. They deserved it. I already told him I have no control over what you do."
A deep, throaty chuckle echoed from the other end of the line.
Seraphina's heart stuttered in her chest once again.
"What are you laughing at?" she asked.
