Lucian snapped out of his daze. "You look beautiful."
The stylist quickly smiled. "Mrs. Langford has such a gorgeous foundation, she looks stunning with just a little effort."
Lucian looked at them. "Thank you for your hard work. Please head to the lounge to collect your bonuses."
The group immediately understood this was their cue to clear the room, packing up their tools and leaving.
Susan also carried Little Bean toward the nursery. "It's time to burp the young heir."
Little Bean's tiny hands flailed even more urgently.
"Wait, I'm not done watching!"
"Daddy, why are you clearing the room? Are you trying to bully Mommy again?"
Seraphina felt her ears burn. Just as she was about to follow Susan, Lucian caught her wrist.
She turned back. "What is it?"
Lucian didn't answer; he simply gave her a gentle tug.
Afraid of hitting his injured legs, Seraphina leaned forward, and in the next second, she found herself sitting on his lap.
She instinctively grabbed his shoulders. "Lucian, stop messing around."
Lucian looked down at her, his hand resting on her waist. He took a deep breath. "I really want to just keep you locked up at home."
Seraphina's heart skipped a beat, and she raised a hand to push him away. "We're going to be late for the gala."
"It's still early."
His palm pressed against the fabric at the small of her back. Even through the thin material, his heat made her spine tingle.
Just as Seraphina was about to speak, Lucian cupped the back of her head and brought his lips down on hers.
There was still a hint of peach scent on her lips. He deepened the kiss, savoring the taste that belonged solely to her.
At first, Seraphina was mindful of his legs and didn't dare struggle too hard.
Gradually, she too became completely immersed. She rested her hands against his chest, gripping his collar as she pressed closer, murmuring his name incoherently.
Lucian deepened the kiss, stealing the air from her lungs.
A long while passed.
Seraphina finally pushed him away, looking into the mirror with uneven breaths.
The woman in the reflection had a faint flush at the corners of her eyes, her lipstick was slightly smudged, and her pearl hair clip was askew.
She turned and glared at him. "The makeup artist spent so long on that, and you ruined it."
