The surrounding gazes fell back onto Seraphina.
Lucian looked up at Landon, his eyes darkening slightly.
But Landon pretended not to notice Lucian's piercing stare, still smiling casually. "Everyone's here to appreciate the art. It's just a casual chat. You don't mind, do you, Seraphina?"
Seraphina looked toward the other side of the exhibition hall.
Hanging there was an unremarkable piece. The color blocks were messy, the lines crisscrossed, and at first glance, even the theme was indecipherable.
She raised her hand and pointed at it. "That one."
Landon followed her finger, a mocking smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. "I didn't realize you had such... unique tastes, Seraphina."
Following Landon's comment, many people in the crowd turned their attention in the same direction.
The painting hung on the fringe of the exhibition area. The messy color blocks looked as though they had been smeared on at random, lacking any clear meaning.
Evie was the first to burst into laughter. "Seraphina, did you just point at the first thing you saw? I looked at that one earlier. It makes absolutely no sense."
Seraphina glanced at her. "Not understanding it isn't embarrassing. What's embarrassing is feeling the need to announce it out loud."
The smile vanished from Evie's face. "You!"
Melody pressed a hand over Evie's, though her own eyes were fixed on the painting.
She couldn't see what was so great about it either.
If Seraphina had just picked one at random to dodge Landon's question, this was going to be highly entertaining.
Landon swirled his wine glass, an arrogant smile on his face. "Since you like it so much, Seraphina, why don't you tell us what's so brilliant about it? Enlighten us."
Seraphina looked at him. "Are you sure you want to hear it?"
Landon raised an eyebrow. "Of course."
"Then put your glass down first." Seraphina eyed the red wine in his hand. "I wouldn't want you spilling it later and blaming the painting for being too difficult to comprehend."
A few people in the crowd chuckled.
Landon's hand slowed, but he ultimately handed his glass to a passing waiter. "After you, Seraphina."
Lucian looked up at Seraphina and said in a low voice, "You don't have to entertain them."
