"The section in the center with the most overlapping colors is pitch black, representing the accumulation of all emotions, culminating in the most agonizing despair. And from that breaking point, the crack appears, searching for that sliver of hope."
Seraphina nodded. "The very end of despair is where hope begins."
The collector stared at the piece, nodding slowly. "When you put it that way, this truly is a remarkable work."
Another society lady leaned in. "I thought it was just some young person throwing paint around, but looking at that line now, it really does draw you in."
Evie was unwilling to concede. "You guys are way too easily swayed, aren't you?"
Jules glanced at her. "No one's forcing you to agree. You're free to stay blind."
Evie ground her teeth together.
Seraphina looked up at Landon. "You asked me which one was better. I chose this one because it leaves room for the viewer."
"Everyone who looks at it can interpret it through their own experiences. A thousand people will see a thousand different meanings."
She paused and glanced back at Melody's painting. "Some pieces are so desperate to be understood that they vomit every single element onto the canvas. It completely kills the intrigue."
Melody had been about to say something, but upon hearing that, her frown deepened.
That was exactly what she had done with her piece.
She had forcefully piled everything she wanted to say right in their faces.
She had meant to show off her technique, but now it had backfired spectacularly.
Landon stared at Seraphina, a hint of scrutiny in his eyes. "Have you studied art before, Seraphina?"
Seraphina replied breezily, "Never."
Evie immediately pounced on that. "You've never studied art, and you dare to critique it?"
"I've never studied culinary arts either, but I still know if a dish is too salty," Seraphina countered, looking at her. "Do you need a certification before you're allowed to eat?"
More chuckles echoed through the crowd.
Evie's face burned with humiliation. "You're just good at running your mouth!"
Seraphina met her glare. "And you can't even manage that."
