Lucian pulled out the chair opposite hers and sat down, his tone conversational. "The company's cash flow took a massive hit recently. The banks are recalling their loans, and several of their major developments have completely stalled. Samuel is practically sweating blood over it right now. The only reason he'd crawl back to you is to beg you to hand over your shares, or at the very least, leverage them to save his sinking ship."
Seraphina stared at the man sitting across from her, a dizzying swirl of emotions rushing through her.
He truly knew absolutely everything. Nothing ever slipped past him.
"I turned him down," Seraphina stated simply.
Lucian gave a slight nod. "I knew you would."
"I want to take a position within the company," Seraphina confessed, laying her cards completely on the table.
She was utterly desperate to finally avenge her mother's shattered legacy.
There was no way she was going to let Samuel, Zelda, and Sienna live happily ever after on the empire her mother built.
Lucian held her gaze, his dark eyes entirely unreadable. "Are you absolutely sure?"
"Yes."
"Samuel will fight tooth and nail to keep you out," Lucian warned quietly. "You hold thirty percent of the equity, making you the second-largest shareholder. According to corporate law, you have a guaranteed seat on the board. But Samuel is going to throw every obstacle he can find in your way."
Seraphina nodded firmly. "I know. That's exactly what I'm preparing for."
Lucian was quiet for a long moment before finally asking, "Do you want my help?"
Seraphina looked up, momentarily stunned.
A clause like that definitely hadn't been in their marriage contract.
"No," she shook her head slowly. "This is a personal battle. I need to fight it myself."
Lucian didn't press the issue. He simply replied with a mild, "Alright. My door is always open if you change your mind."
With that, he rose from the chair and headed for the door.
But right as he reached the threshold, he paused, casting a dark glance over his shoulder.
"There is one thing you should be aware of, though."
"What is it?"
"Sebastian is quietly re-evaluating the terms of your upcoming patent expirations. His legal team has already started testing the waters."
Seraphina froze, a deep scowl instantly knitting her brows together.
