"Mr. Simmons, I've only just joined the board. I'm not familiar with the company's operational details yet. Once I've reviewed everything, we can discuss the capital issue," Seraphina replied calmly.
Their little scheme was glaringly obvious.
Zelda smiled sweetly. "Sera, you're Mrs. Langford now. The Langford family has deep pockets. Wouldn't it be effortless for you to pull a few strings and have Lucian inject some funds into our operations?"
Looking at Zelda's hypocritical face, a wave of disgust washed over Seraphina.
"Ms. Gates, Lucian is Lucian, and I am me. His money has nothing to do with me."
Zelda's expression faltered slightly. "What kind of talk is that? You're married. Isn't his money your money?"
Seraphina stood up. "Even spouses need financial boundaries. I will figure out a way to resolve the company's financial crisis, but it won't be through Lucian."
With that, she turned to Samuel. "Mr. Simmons, if there's nothing else, I'll be taking my leave."
Samuel looked furious, but unwilling to cause a scene in front of the other shareholders, he just gave a stiff nod.
Seraphina stepped out of the boardroom and took a deep breath.
Little Bean sounded indignant in her mind. *They're crossing the line! How dare they try to use you! Go get 'em, Mom!*
She gently rested a hand on her stomach, thinking calmly, *Don't be upset. I saw this coming miles away.*
*So what's the plan?*
She stepped into the elevator. *We wait and see. Regardless, I won't let them have their way.*
Stepping out of the building, she saw Lucian's car still idling at the entrance.
Seeing her, he got out of the car. "How did it go?"
"I'm in," she replied.
He nodded, asking no further questions, and opened the passenger door for her.
Once they were on the road, he suddenly broke the silence. "Did Samuel ask you to hit me up for an investment?"
Seraphina blinked in surprise. "How did you know?"
The man was practically psychic.
