Chapter 89 The Lycan King’s Warriors

Chapter 89: The Lycan King’s Warriors

Max

As we drove through the gates of the Academy of Warriors, I couldn’t stop looking at how it was as if no damage had been done to it. Everything had been erased as quickly as possible. Of course, that was what happened. That was the place that trained my father’s warriors.

A trumpet sounded while the host announced our arrival and the warriors lined up on both sides to receive us with a round of applause like that was the most amazing thing to ever happen.

The car stopped right at the entrance of the arena, and my brother and I stepped out in the company of our guards,

The arena was packed, leaving no seat empty.

I had never been there before with Tyler and looking at how the majority of them were dressed, they were all warriors who lived to serve my father.

Everyone seemed so excited to be there and even though my brother and I weren’t in the mood, we forced ourselves to smile.

We were guided to our seats, right at the front and they were elevated, just to show how important we were. From there, I could see everything, but I didn’t feel like looking around. It wasn’t like there was someone special in the crowd for me. The host took center stage, making the announcement that the graduation would begin with performances from a few of the warriors.

That seemed to get everyone excited as they erupted in applause.

The first warrior stepped onto the center of the arena. His voice was soft as he sung a song of sorrow that included the homes destroyed and the lives that were lost. The grip on my armrest tightened when he said her name.

“Addison,” he spat, as if saying her name tasted bitter. “The monster who brought the flood.”

There were immediate murmurs of agreement throughout the arena.

Then, his tone shifted to something stronger and louder. “But monsters fall when justice rises.”

The crowd instantly cheered at that.

“And tonight,” he smiled, “we celebrate a kingdom that stands unbroken, because she’s dead!”

The next applause was even louder. I had never seen that guy before, but whoever he was, by closing his performance like that, had already imagined a world in which Addison was dead. I couldn’t even get up to tell him to shut up.

The second performance was poetry and it was the same pattern all over again. Addison was first condemned through some cruel words. She became a villain that was created out of fear and grief Then came the ending, full of hope, victory and promises that my father would prevail.

“She paid the price,” the poet said.

I thought there wouldn’t be any more performances like that, but everything that came afterwards was still the same as the last. It was just different voices but the same message. That Addison was gone, she deserved it and that the kingdom was safe now.

My jaw began to ache from constantly clenching it.

Tyler noticed and spoke to me through the mind link.

“This sucks, but just take it easy.”

I nodded once, but my blood was still boiling. They were celebrating her death. I couldn’t even stand up and tell them she was still alive. Because doing that would only make it clear to everyone that I hated every part of the performances I had just seen and I wasn’t on my father’s side. So I stayed silent.

When the performances came to an end, it was time for my brother and I to head over to the stage and once again, the place erupted in applause.

He moved ahead of me as he was the first to speak.

“Congratulations to all of you who have graduated today. It’s an honor to serve the Lycan King and I’m confident that each of you will make him proud.”

Even though he smiled and his tone was convite Successfully unlocked! could see the slight twitch at the corner of his mouth. He didn’t believe any of what he had just sa

Sa and the diving someone like our father wasn’t an honor. It was a cage.

The crowd loved every bit of the rest of what he had to say and when he was done, the applause followed him even as he stepped aside.

Then, it was my turn, everyone going silent to hear what I had to say.

“Even after the tragedy just a few days ago, we gather here to recognize the accomplishments and dedication of those who serve the kingdom. We have suffered loss, but seeing all of the warriors today tells us all that there is still purpose and hope.” I swallowed hard, telling myself to force all the words which he wanted to hear out. “Our Alpha, my father, has been working tirelessly to restore what was damaged. There’s still a long way to go, but he’ll get it all done. It’s our duty as warriors and citizens of this kingdom to ensure that justice is served.”

Everything I had just said tasted bitter on my tongue. In my heart, I wanted to shout and tell everyone exactly what kind of justice I wanted. I wanted justice for Nora after she was murdered in front of me and for forcing my brother and I to do all that, but I couldn’t, at least not at that moment.

So I smiled and clapped as I announced the winners. I presented the award for the Warrior Selection Competition with ease. Olivia was the winner and I handed her the trophy. She was so excited, just like everyone else in the crowd among the recent graduates. I saw their eager faces to serve the king. They were going to be groomed perfectly into his warriors. As the host took center stage again and briefly spoke about our speeches to emphasize on the war that was coming, I could see it in everyone’s faces. They were ready for it. His words faded out when Tyler spoke to me using the mind link.

“You did great.”

“Just as our father wanted it to be,” I replied.

I caught some of the female warriors flirtatiously giggling as they kept suggestively looking at me. The last thing on my mind was any of them. All I could think about was Addison.

It was only after I took my seat that I realized how that event was going to be talked about everywhere and it meant that Addison and her family were going to see or hear about it. How were they going to see me? How was she going to feel?

The dining hall was filled with large tables and all seats were taken as there were many warriors who wished to feast with the Princes of the kingdom.

There was also so much to eat and drink for everyone and that added to their excitement.

Tyler sat next to me and was glued to his phone, grinning like the world was perfect. I didn’t need to even ask who he was talking to because I knew it was Jess. I thought about my own phone which I had with me but couldn’t do what he was doing. Jess wasn’t a risk, but my every move was, especially when it involved Addison.

When I couldn’t take being there anymore, I pushed my chair back so loudly that it scraped against the floor. I got up and so many eyes were now on me, but I didn’t care. I just needed some air.

I was on my way out of the hall when the guards we had come with from the palace began following me. I reminded them that I wasn’t going anywhere else. I was still within the premises of the academy. One of them tried to insist and that was when I glowed my eyes as a warning for them to stay back. I hadn’t done that before, which made them know that I was being serious.

They retreated, letting me go outside on my own. I found a private space, not too far from the hall and looked up at the sky with a sigh of relief. I could finally breathe without the weight of everyone’s eyes.

I only had a few minutes alone because among all those scents, one of them began to stand out and it didn’t take long for me to recognize that it was Ruby. I didn’t even turn when I heard her footsteps approaching until she stopped right beside

“Hey,” she said. Her voice was bright and sweet. “That speech was incredible.”

“Thanks,” I said, but didn’t turn to meet her eyes.

She moved even closer, making it clear that she had no intention’s of leaving. Her presence was already annoying. “I’ve never been to one of these parties,” she said. “I came because I found out that you and Tyler were going to be in attendance.”

I raised an eyebrow sarcastically. “Well, good for you.”

It didn’t matter to her that I wasn’t interested. She was still trying to impress me. And that was when she fully went for it. The situation in Pike Hill is still so sad. Even all that’s been done to rebuild, so many still suffer. I assure you that my family will do everything they can for you in this kingdom. Addison…” her voice turned darker. “… she’s a terrifying monster.” My grip tightened on the railing as I thought about how she used to smirk each time she bullied Addison, when she thought she had the upper hand.

Chapter 89. The Lycan King’s Warriors

“You make it sound like you want to fight her,” I said. “Don’t forget what happened to you last time you tried it.”

She waved her hand dismissively, like she hadn’t expected me to say something like that. “I wasn’t ready back then, okay Besides, I didn’t know what I was up against and now that I do, things are different.”

I looked at her with narrowed eyes and she didn’t try to hide that she had something up her sleeve.

“You make it sound like you can handle her,” I said.

“Not me, but I have someone who will be ready to help when it’s time to handle her. It’ll take a team effort to defeat Addison I’m glad you chose to stand by your father’s side.”

She continued to paint Addison as the villain and I fought the urge to step closer and tell her to shut up. What came to the rescue was Tyler’s voice when he called out to me. I looked over and saw him waving at me.
