The plan had been simple: get Ruby to arrange for a street protest that demanded my brother and I to be present, do it for a while just to please my father, then put an end to it by getting everyone something to eat right within their territory.
In the middle of all that noise, Ruby had done the one other thing I’d asked of her, to send a message to her father that I wished to speak to him in private. She’d even been the one to sugest where exactly I could meet him during my time there.
My brother and I were treated like the royalty we were when we arrived. Lucia, the Luna, welcomed us after we entered the pack house. Even if we were in her territory, my brother and I were the Lycan princes, making her get out of her seat and bow to us.
“Mom, Max and Tyler are staying here for dinner,” Ruby said with excitement. “They’re the ones who made the arrangements for everyone in the backyard!”
Bringing her hands together, Lucia said, “Thank you so much for everything you’ve done this evening. It shows where exactly you stand and we’re all on your father’s side.”
“Thank you,” Tyler said.
To stall, he continued talking to Lucia while the guards from the palace were right there, keeping an eye on both of us.
“Hey, I need to show you something in private,” Ruby said to me loud enough for everyone to hear.
I knew that was the signal for me to head to where I could speak o her father. I hadn’t even picked up his scent yet, but I still didn’t mind getting away from there.
Looking at Tyler and Lucia, I excused myself and she nodded with approval. She must have thought her daughter and I were going to grow closer.
I was about to follow Ruby as she led the way outside when two of the guards began to follow behind.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Ruby snapped at them.
“We have orders to accompany the princes at all times,” one of them said.
She sneered. “I said I wanted to show him something in private, hat means everyone gets to stay behind.”
For a moment, I was impressed by how she handled the situation, but she had to make it dramatic when she went on a long rant that turned annoying to me. I even glanced at my brother and caught him subtly rolling his eyes.
By the time she was done with her rant, it was clear that the guards wouldn’t follow us at all. She had managed to convince them that they weren’t needed.
When we could finally get away, she brought me to a secluded area within their territory, then stopped in her tracks.
“My dad should be here in a few minutes,” she said, standing right in front of me as she twirled a few hair strands. Under the moonlight, I caught that subtle lip bite as she checked me out from head to toe.
“He’s already on his way back,” I said.
I quickly stood right next to her just so I wouldn’t have her face front of me. I hated that I had to act like I wanted to be around her for as long as I wanted to speak to Jeffrey,
“OMG! It’s so awesome that you can always tell before most of about someone who’s coming. That’s what makes your family so special. You’re all so cool, especially you”

“Thanks,” I said with a lack of enthusiasm. I couldn’t wait for Jelley to arrive so I wouldn’t have to deal with her anymore.
All I could think about was my girl and my mate, Addison. I wondered if Jess had spoken to her. How had she handled the truth? Did she smile? Was she relieved that I wasn’t in on it? Did he wish to help out my brother and I? I hadn’t heard back from Jess and that raised my anticipation.
I was picturing a time when I’d see my mate again without worrying about my father when Ruby’s annoying voice snapped me out of it.
“So, what do you and my dad have to talk about?” she asked, moving closer towards me until the side of her arm came in contact with mine.
