Jonathan's voice carried a hint of displeasure.
A flicker of surprise crossed Stephanie's eyes.
Come to think of it, if she hadn't happened to run into him today, she probably would have never known that Jonathan had contacted an executive behind her back.
But they were just a married couple in name only, with no real ties. Why would Jonathan go to such lengths?
Stephanie wasn't an ungrateful person.
While she didn't care about the trending topic herself, having it plastered on the front page would have a huge impact on OALA Group.
Objectively speaking, Jonathan had helped her immensely.
Stephanie took a breath. "How about I treat you to dinner too?"
At this, Jonathan chuckled. "Planning to have me and Eden share a table, are you?"
"Of course not," Stephanie said immediately.
"Oh?"
"He's getting a meal at a restaurant. I'm cooking for you at home."
A home-cooked meal, after all, held a different significance than eating out.
Jonathan's gaze deepened. "Tonight?"
"Whatever you'd like to eat," Stephanie agreed readily.
"I'll eat whatever you make."
It was such a simple sentence.
But his voice was a low, sexy whisper next to her, and in an instant, Stephanie felt her ears start to burn.
Stephanie bit her lip, trying to steady her racing heart. "Is a full meal okay?"
"You decide."
Jonathan's eyes were dark and deep. He leaned over to grab the jacket draped on the back of her chair.
As he did, his chest brushed against her back, and Stephanie's eyelashes trembled.
Her fingers tightened slightly. "In that case, I'll go buy groceries. You should come home early tonight."
With that, she hurried out of the café.
Behind her, Jonathan watched her retreating figure and smiled.
Meeting Jonathan's icy glare, Tobias's voice trailed off.
Considering Jonathan had been single for so many years, he probably didn't know how to make a move.
As a good friend, Tobias offered some advice. "Get a couple of bottles of wine! Alcohol is the best aphrodisiac!"
"Jonathan, when you're drunk, just pounce on her! With your V-cut abs and that six-pack, I guarantee one try will get any woman hooked. We're all adults here; everyone has desires."
Jonathan shot him a glance. "You seem to know a lot for a single guy."
"I don't, but that's how it always goes in those kinds of movies!"
Jonathan: "?"
"Jonathan, trust me! We've been friends for so many years, would I ever steer you wrong?"
Tobias played his trump card. "You don't want to see Stephanie getting back together with Quennel, do you?"
Something flickered in Jonathan's mind, and his eyes darkened.
…
At six in the evening, Stephanie had finished cooking. Seeing that Jonathan hadn't arrived yet, she went to the bathroom to quickly wash her hair.
