No matter what Patricia said, Stephanie had a well-reasoned argument ready for her.
By the end of her speech, Stephanie looked slightly aggrieved.
Yet she also maintained an air of quiet endurance and honesty.
Just as she'd hoped, York’s expression gradually softened.
Once he did the math, York knew the Vasquez family wouldn't be losing out.
He finally relented. “I'm not an unreasonable man. The Jacksons passed away suddenly, and it hasn’t been easy for Meridian to get to where it is. The resources and advantages the Gonzalez family gave Meridian, the Vasquez family will provide as well! We'll give you three times as much!”
Stephanie’s eyes lit up. What a show of wealth!
This was an unexpected bonus.
Just then, Elva sighed with an innocent expression. “The shares of the Vasquez family, especially the original shares, come with enormous annual dividends. They’re probably worth more than all of Meridian’s profits. Jonathan truly spoils you.”
At first glance, the comment seemed harmless, but on closer inspection, it was laden with malice.
The shares in question were significant, amounting to over ten percent. Even York himself only held a little over thirty percent.
Those who held original shares were typically key figures who had made major contributions to Ironhold, and even the largest of them held no more than 3%. Mrs. Vasquez Sr. herself only had 3%.
Crucially, the three women in the household had nothing. Not even the illegitimate son, Mark.
Yet Stephanie now held over ten percent, second only to York. The potential for conflict was immense.
Stephanie had long known Elva was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. To think she had once served Grace, yet showed no regard for their past relationship.
But then again, when interests were at stake, sentimentality rarely mattered.
Besides, Elva was no longer the servant she once was. The fact that York had allowed her and her son from a previous marriage to live in the Vasquez home proved she was no simple woman.
Stephanie lowered her eyes, a blush creeping up her cheeks. “I’ve already told Jonathan that I’m just holding onto them for now. When we have a child, they will naturally belong to our child…”
At her words, the entire room fell silent for a few seconds.
Jonathan seemed to snap out of a daze, subconsciously scratching his brow. What did she just say?
