Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 240

“Quennel, you saved me tonight, and I’m grateful. I’ll find another way to repay you. But between us, it’s impossible. Give up on that idea.”

Stephanie’s words made Quennel’s face grow darker and darker.

Suddenly, as if possessed, he pulled her into a fierce embrace, holding her so tightly she could barely breathe.

Weak as she was, Stephanie struggled against him, but she couldn’t break free. She could feel the frantic rise and fall of his chest as he fought for control.

“I didn’t betray you. Nothing ever happened between me and Victoria. I never even touched her.”

“I was never in love with her! I only helped her because I felt sorry for her, all alone in Veridian, struggling to get by. It was just pity!”

“Didn’t you pity her too? That’s why you sponsored her, wasn’t it?”

Quennel’s words almost made Stephanie laugh.

Look at that. Cheaters always found a way to make excuses for themselves.

Quennel gripped her shoulders. “I don’t want you to repay me in some other way. I don’t want your repayment at all. We don’t need that between us. I just want us to be okay.”

“You’ve only known Jonathan for a few weeks! Stephanie, divorce him. We are the ones who are family! He’s tricking you!”

“Let’s go back to how things were before…”

Stephanie could see the raw emotion in Quennel’s face.

He looked so earnest, his deep eyes glistening with unshed tears from the intensity of his feelings.

In the past, whenever he had shown even a hint of submission, her heart would soften.

But now, seeing him like this, she felt nothing at all.

Perhaps she had truly fallen out of love with him, which was why she could remain so calm.

Stephanie said coldly, “Victoria was the one who hurt me. You said you would handle her, Quennel. You broke your promise.”

“So it was her!” Quennel’s expression twisted in fury. He knew that phone call from Victoria had been suspicious.

And she had tried to pin it all on Morgan.

Quennel’s eyes blazed. “I’ll kill her! I’ll kill her!”

Stephanie had no desire to continue the conversation.

So now… the drug was taking effect?

Originally, she had been calculating that the sedative was wearing off and she was regaining her strength. She had thought that maybe, just maybe, she could slip away later.

But now…

“What’s wrong?” Quennel looked down, noticing her change. He frowned. “Stephanie, are you not feeling well?”

They were inside the villa now. Quennel switched on the lights and immediately saw the deep flush on Stephanie’s face.

Her lips were slightly parted, and a pink hue had spread from her earlobes all the way down her neck.

She seemed to be in extreme discomfort, her face rubbing gently against his chest like a small, affectionate kitten.

A flicker of desire ignited in Quennel.

His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his eyes glinted with a specific kind of hope. “Stephanie, have you come to your senses? I knew you still loved me!”

With that, Quennel cupped Stephanie’s face, leaning in eagerly to kiss her…
