Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 255

A wave of murmurs and excited whispers rippled through the venue. Tabloid accounts immediately began sharing the clip, and the number of livestream viewers skyrocketed from a few million to over ten million.

This was at three in the afternoon, a time when television ratings were typically low.

The director backstage was ecstatic.

The host continued, “Mr. Gonzalez, I hear you have a childhood sweetheart. Is she the one you're referring to?”

Quennel answered without hesitation, “Of course.”

The host then dropped another bombshell. “There are rumors that your sweetheart recently married someone else. Are you two… having an affair?”

If they had been speaking in riddles before, the host's question had just laid everything bare.

Cecilia pounded her thigh in frustration. “Are you kidding me? What is Quennel doing? Is he leading the charge to slander you? You’re a married woman!”

Stephanie was frowning too.

Someone was discreetly observing Jonathan's expression.

He remained in his initial posture, sitting calmly on the sofa, his face unreadable. He seemed completely unaffected by the topic of conversation, as if it had nothing to do with him.

Everyone was impressed by his composure. The other man was all but announcing he was having an affair with his wife, and yet he remained so still.

After a few seconds of silence, Quennel chuckled and said, “We’ve always had a wonderful relationship. She suddenly got married because we had a disagreement. She was just trying to make me jealous.”

The live chat had already exploded:

[OMG OMG! So that’s what it is! So what does that make Jonathan? Just a pawn in their game?]

[Why do I suddenly feel bad for Jonathan? What did he do to deserve being used as a tool in their drama!!]

[Isn't this basically a direct attack!]

[Wait, is my moral compass broken? Jonathan is the legal husband, right? Isn’t Quennel’s behavior that of a homewrecker? And the woman, isn’t she cheating on her husband? Why drag an innocent person into their fight?]

She replied: “Very handsome.”

“Do you like it?”

“…”

Beside her, Cecilia looked like she was about to explode into a squealing fangirl.

“Oh my god! This is what it feels like to have a front-row seat to the gossip! Stephanie, reply to him! Just say you love it! So much that your knees go weak and you want to pounce on him right now! Tell him you want to touch his chiseled waist and nibble on his pecs!”

Stephanie’s cheeks flushed red. She wasn’t as bold as Cecilia; she could never say something like that.

Her finger hovered over the screen. She typed out the word “like” but deleted it just as quickly.

Cecilia slapped her thigh in frustration. “Stephanie, send it! Just send it! You can totally get him hooked!”
