Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 93

The next day.

Stephanie went to the university.

Carrying a gift, she walked to the faculty housing in the northwest corner of the campus and confidently made her way up to the third floor.

Green vines crawled up the exterior walls, giving the building an artistic flair that couldn't quite conceal its age.

The entire building seemed to belong to another era. In a city like Veridian, filled with towering skyscrapers, this place felt like a forgotten corner where time itself had slowed down.

During her student years, Stephanie had often come over to Professor Sanders' place for dinner. But after graduation, her work kept her too busy, and she only visited on holidays.

She was here today, not for any special occasion, because she had received a message from Professor Sanders during her trip to Aurelia asking about her work.

She suspected Zachary had complained to her.

The front door was ajar. Stephanie knocked twice, and footsteps immediately echoed from inside.

Monica Sanders opened the door with a smile. "Stephanie, you're here."

"Professor Sanders."

Monica had a kind face and an intellectual air.

She invited Stephanie to sit and poured her a glass of water. "I heard you resigned. Did you have a hard time at Zachary's company?"

Stephanie pursed her lips and quickly accepted the cup with both hands. "Not exactly a hard time. It was more a difference in philosophy."

"You are my most prized student. Your character and research are impeccable. For you to say it was a 'difference in philosophy,' it must have been Zachary's fault!"

When they were younger, Zachary had pursued Monica.

But Monica had turned him down.

Citing her dedication to her career and a lack of time for marriage and children, she rejected all her suitors.

From then on, Monica became Zachary's 'one that got away.'

Zachary's voice returned to normal. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just felt like being thoughtful and checking in on you. Kind of."

Zachary: ?

Did I just get cursed out?

For the next ten minutes, Stephanie witnessed a side of Professor Sanders she had never seen before.

She tore into Zachary over the phone, and the man who was usually a tyrant in front of his employees was as meek as a lamb before Monica.

Stephanie had heard that Monica was a heartbreaker in her youth, and now she believed it. This stark contrast in her personality was absolutely captivating. No wonder men both loved and feared her.

After hanging up, Monica glanced at the wide-eyed Stephanie.

Her usual composure restored, she smiled and said, "Are you hungry? I'll go make us lunch. I bought some of that fish you used to love."
