Chapter 525 Opening Up
“I needed an income source that brought in money fast, with relatively controllable risk. I had many other businesses apart from being in this industry…”
After saying that, Silas smiled at Emma. “Luckily, I made it through. Now, the entire Command Department answers to me.”
After his reforms, those rotten, predatory practices never happened again. Silas never thought of himself as a good person, for he wasn’t entirely innocent. His hands had once been soaked in blood, but he’d drawn a clear line for himself.
At the very least, under his leadership, those young commanders who truly had talent and ability could fully pursue their ambitions and ideals. They would not have to repeat his path, nor become pawns to be manipulated or meaningless sacrifices.
Silas glanced at Emma, her reflection caught in the faint smile in his eyes.
“Emma, I know this sort of thing doesn’t sound very respectable. If you don’t like it, I can-”
Before he could finish, Emma cut him off. “It’s not that I don’t like it.”
She tightened her grip around Silas‘ hand. If the Empire itself did not forbid it, what was there for her to dislike? More importantly, behind it all lay Silas‘ hardships and his countless brushes with death along the way.
“I just feel sorry for you.”
Whenever people talked about Silas, they’d praise his far–reaching intellect and admire his calm, commanding presence. In everyone’s eyes, it was as if he had been born to stand at the very top, cool and noble as he looked down on everyone else.
Emma used to think that way too, and she had never taken the initiative to learn about Silas‘ past. She couldn’t fathom the dangers he had faced to reach this point.
The more Emma thought about it, the more her heart ached for him.
Silas smiled and pulled her into his arms. “Emma, all of that is already in the past. I now have the ability to protect the two of us.”
Silas was very grateful that he had only met Emma after gaining power. Otherwise, given his situation back then, he would not have dared to get too deeply involved with her.
He had climbed out of the darkness himself and refused to let his struggles taint the light.
“Now that I’ve told you about my past, why don’t you tell me about yours?”
He had not dared to ask before, but now, he wanted to know.
Worried that Emma might not want to talk about it, Silas directed a question at her. “Why not start by telling me how you realized! knew you were part of the group?”
At the mention of this, Emma reached out and pinched his waist again. “It was all because of that message you sent to Corvin, telling him to meet you, silly.
“Corvin hadn’t done anything to upset you, so why did you summon him all of a sudden? The more I thought about it, I realized you must’ve figured out I joined the group.”
At first, it hadn’t clicked for Emma. But after thinking it through carefully, that was the only thing Corvin had done. With how smart

In the starrail’s dining area, the plates had been cleared away after the meal, yet Emma hadn’t emerged from Silas‘ room.
Calum leaned against the doorframe, glancing toward Silas‘ room several times.
“Why isn’t Ms. Tibarn out yet?”
Silas was certainly a cunning one! He had a ton of tricks to keep Emma occupied, making the others jealous.
Marcus slumped in his chair, seemingly indifferent to his surroundings.
Slowly, he raised his hand, and an icy blue current gathered in his palm. Amid the swirling mist, the cold rapidly condensed into a transparent ice wolf about the size of a palm.
The little ice wolf was crystal clear. It lifted its head and let out a long howl, looking imposing and fierce. A closer look showed that its brows and eyes resembled Marcus himself, carrying the same unruly edge.
Marcus merely glanced at it before frowning in displeasure.
No, it looks too fierce.
Seeing how cold and sharp it looked, Emma wouldn’t like it.
Marcus closed his fingers, showing no emotion on his face. With a crisp crack, the ice wolf shattered instantly, turning into fragments that slipped through his fingers and dissipated into the air.
The temperature in the dining area seemed to drop a few degrees. Marcus spread his palm again, and another wave of cold gathered.
This time, his control was far more precise. The ice crystals rebuilt themselves at a speed visible to the naked eye. Moments later, a new ice wolf appeared in his palm.
This one looked much gentler, sitting obediently in place. More notably, beside it sat a slender girl. Anyone could tell that it was
Emma.
Marcus stared intently at the tiny ice sculpture, and for a brief moment, he seemed somewhat satisfied. But very quickly, his brows furrowed again.
No, this doesn’t seem right. Emma would never sit obediently beside me. She should be bold, vivid, and smiling. More importantly, she should be tugging at my ears.
This ice sculpture girl was far too quiet, nothing like his female lead at all.
Another crisp sound rang out as the ice sculpture shattered once more, crumbling into
