Chapter 538 Things Took a Turn
Just as Quintus gathered the last of his strength and was about to bite his tongue and end his life…
Squelch!
A sound of a sharp object piercing flesh echoed through the silent room.

Leighton’s arrogant expression froze. He lowered his head in disbelief and looked at his chest, which was pierced through.
A deep–blue vine had emerged from the floor out of nowhere and stabbed through his body. Warm blood spilled onto Quintus‘ face as he looked at Leighton with a bewildered expression.
Leighton struggled to turn his head, using his last bit of strength to look at Silas, who had remained standing in the same posture.
“Why?”
Silas‘ gaze flickered with slight surprise before returning to its usual expressionless state as he looked at Leighton as if the latter were an insignificant piece of trash.
“Your offer is quite nice.” As Silas spoke, the vine withdrew from Leighton’s chest. “However, compared to cooperating with you, turning the Supervisory Department into mine gives me far more assurance. You were in my way, so you had to die.”
Leighton’s body crashed to the ground with a thud as blood spread across the floor.
Quintus stared blankly at the bloody scene before him. Warm blood still coated his cheeks, carrying the stench of death. Trembling in horror, he looked up at Silas.
Silas ignored the panicked Quintus and left the room.
Soon, two males entered the room. Upon seeing Leighton’s corpse, their faces showed no reaction–clearly accustomed to such
scenes.
“Clean it up.” Silas‘ voice came from outside the door. Then, he casually tossed in a small bottle, which landed precisely in the hand of one of the males.
“Let him drink this.” With that, Silas completely vanished from sight.
The bottle contained Edric’s poison, which would make Quintus forget everything that had just happened.
After leaving the room, Silas went to a secluded corner. Then, he came to a halt and said to the shadows where no one stood.
“Come out.”
The air was silent for a few seconds before Marcus‘ figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
“How did you know it was me?” Marcus asked as he walked over. He was sure he hadn’t shown the slightest trace of himself.
Silas extended his hand and caressed an ordinary exotic that was growing in a crack in the wall.
Marcus instantly understood. Wherever there were exotic plants, Silas‘ spies were everywhere.

“Did Emma send you?” asked Sitas.

“Yes.” Marcus nodded. “She was worried about you.” However, Marcus felt that Emma’s worry was unnecessary. After all, Silas was a man who could kill without hesitation. Hence, the danger was always to others.
“Are you going back now?” Marcus asked. He felt that things should already be settled since Leighton was already dead,
“You head back first. I’ll return shortly,” Silas replied. He still had something to handle.
Marcus nodded before turning away.
After Marcus left, Silas touched his chest briefly with a gloomy expression. Then, he quickly turned and entered the basement.
Bang! The basement door closed behind him.
Silas stared at the empty floor ahead and said coldly, “Come out.” His voice carried an unusual strictness.
The next second, the hard floor in the center of the room suddenly softened, and a deep–blue vine shot up from the ground. At the tip of the vine, a flash of light transformed it into a toddler that looked about three years old.
The toddler’s skin was smooth, and his deep–blue eyes were just like Silas: On his short dark–blue hair rested a small flower that was emitting a faint glow.
Remy, standing barefoot, shivered instinctively at Silas‘ icy expression. Then, he lowered his head timidly and called out softly, “Daddy.”
Silas‘ expression didn’t soften even when Remy feigned innocence. His face remained stern as he asked sharply, “When did you wake up?”
Remy clutched his fingers and avoided Silas‘ gaze, his voice even smaller than before. “When you arrived here.”
Silas was alarmed at his words. He didn’t expect Remy to wake up as soon as he arrived at the underground auction. He realized Remy had a strong talent since Remy left his body and killed someone without him sensing a thing.
“Daddy!” Sensing Silas‘ sternness, Remy hurried over and grasped the hem of Silas‘ clothes. Then, he whined softly, “Daddy, let’s go find Mommy. She’ll be happy if she knows that I can transform into a human.”
“Stand still!” Silas‘ face remained cold. He didn’t forget Remy had just killed someone just because the latter had pleaded with
him.
