She wasn’t truly worried about Alaric. After all, he was the strongest among them. Beast God Mountain was practically his home. There was no way he’d meet the same fate as Malrik.
“So if you’re not worried about him,” Lucien said, arching a brow as he looked at Emma, “does that mean you’ll miss him?“557
Emma didn’t answer. Miss him? Maybe… just a little.
Seeing her silence, Lucien knew he’d guessed right. “If you’ll miss him, then he hasn’t left yet. You can go see him—or at least walk him out.”
Emma looked up at Lucien and pressed her lips together, her expression complicated. Her husband was calmly encouraging her to go see another male. The feeling was strange. And oddly thrilling.
She took out the gift Alaric had given her and opened the box. Inside lay an exquisite storage band,
When Lucien saw it, he couldn’t help laughing. “Well, looks like he was afraid you wouldn’t choose him. He handed over his entire fortune in advance.”
Emma picked up the storage band and was instantly startled by what was inside. The space within was unimaginably vast, almost completely filled. One priceless treasure after another–items most people would never see in a lifetime.
Before her relationship with Alaric was even defined, Emma didn’t dare accept something like this. She immediately put the storage band back into the box. Without hesitation, she stood up and headed straight for Alaric’s room.
His door wasn’t closed, only left ajar.
Inside, Alaric sat quietly on the couch, his long fingers tapping the armrest in a steady rhythm.
The door creaked open.
When Alaric saw Emma standing there, he showed no surprise at all. It was as if he’d known she would: come. He’d been sitting here, waiting for her.
“Ms. Tibarn.” He lifted his gaze as Emma walked in and slowly straightened. “Did you need something?”
Emma held out the box. “I’m returning this to you.”
Alaric looked at the box in her hands but didn’t take it. “Why give it back? Because you don’t want it–or because you can’t accept it yet?”
“The things you gave me are too valuable,” Emma said. “I can’t accept them right now.”
Alaric’s gaze left the box. He stood and looked directly into Emma’s eyes, his expression intent, as if he were trying to see straight through her.
After a moment, he spoke. “So, Ms. Tibarn, you mean you can’t accept it now–but you can later. Is that

right?”
This gift had always been a test of her feelings.
Emma looked at him and hesitated, unsure how to answer.

His purpose was far too clear. On the surface, he seemed distant and ethereal, but the pressure he gave off was intense.
“Ms. Tibarn,” Alaric said softly, stepping closer, “are you silent because you don’t know how to answer me?”
He bent down, took hold of her shoulders, and met her eyes at the same level. “Then let me answer for you. You can’t bring yourself to hate me, can you? I don’t believe you feel nothing for me. You don’t want to accept my gift right now because our relationship hasn’t been defined yet. You’re afraid to accept it–not unwilling. You do have feelings for me, don’t you?”
His hand lifted to her cheek, his breathing growing heavier. He pressed the box back into her hands. “Take me. Please.”
He said him, not it.
Emma met his gaze, eyes so deep they felt like they might pull her soul under. For a moment, she didn’t know how to respond.
He was right. She couldn’t hate him. And more than that, she couldn’t deny that she felt something for
him.
“Alaric…” Her voice was dry. She lowered her eyes, took a slow breath, and said, “It’s not that I don’t want to accept it.”
She paused, searching for the right words. “I just think it’s too soon. Our relationship hasn’t reached that point yet. And you’re about to leave for Beast God Mountain.”
She looked up at him, serious and steady. “I think we should at least wait until you come back.”
They hadn’t even confirmed their relationship. Accepting so much of his wealth now didn’t feel right. It really didn’t.
Her words sounded like a refusal, but they were also a promise of sorts. She was willing to wait for him- until he returned from Beast God Mountain. But Alaric didn’t want to wait.
