Damian hadn’t expected Emma to speak to him so naturally. His body stiffened slightly, and his gaze locked onto her face, greedily tracing her features. However, he didn’t dare to look at her for too long.
She looked even more beautiful than before. Her smile looks warmer than when we first met.
Thinking about it, Damian opened his mouth and said hoarsely, “I’m here to see Marshal Calum.” Then, afraid of provoking her displeasure, he quickly explained, “There are some matters concerning the company, so I need to discuss them with him in person.”
As he finished speaking, his hand clenched unconsciously. His eyes drifted back toward Emma.
and There were so many things he wanted to say. He wanted to tell her he truly knew he was wrong wanted to ask whether she could give him another chance. Even if she didn’t want to choose him as a mate, just letting him stay by her side would be enough.
However, he didn’t dare say any of it. After all, he finally had a reason to see her. If he spoke those words, he was afraid that he might never be able to see her again.
Emma knew that Calum had helped Damian deal with the Empire’s upper echelons. She nodded lightly and said, “Okay. Go talk to Calum.” Then, without another glance at Damian, she entered the castle.
Damian watched as she entered the castle with the others.
“What do you want to talk to me about?” Suddenly, Calum’s cold voice sounded beside him, snapping Damian back to reality.
He turned around and met Calum’s icy, warning stare.
Damian pursed his lips together and quickly regained his usual composure. “Marshal Calum, I apologize for the sudden disturbance. I’m here to discuss NexusPrime Tech’s future development plans with you.”
“I’m a soldier, not a businessman,” Calum replied, his presence imposing and authoritative. “Nexus Prime Tech is yours, so how it develops has nothing to do with me.”
Calum truly had no interest in commercial matters. He was only interested in Damian’s money. Moreover, if Damian wanted to talk business, he should have gone to Lucien instead.
Damian had anticipated this response. Unfazed by Calum’s pressure, he raised his wrist and operated his lightcore. Then, a blue holographic screen unfolded between them.
“You don’t have to reject me so quickly. Take a look first.” He smiled faintly, wearing the confidence of a seasoned businessman.
Calum glanced at Damian before turning to the document. As he read the document, a short, cold laugh escaped him.
“You’ve got some nerves. Are you sure you want to do this?”
In the past, I wouldn’t have,” Damian replied as he met Calum’s gaze seriously. “I was blinded by profit and

This document had been written by his own hand–after Calum and Lucien offered to help him resolve his troubles. He had thought long and hard, and this was the only way he could preserve even the faintest connection with Emma.
“I know I no longer have a chance. This is the only thing I can still do—for her, and for myself. At least this way, I can lie to myself and believe there’s still a thread binding us.” As he spoke, his voice lowered further. “It also gives me a reason to keep living.”
Once a male truly fell in love with his huntress, her love became his entire world. When that bond was severed, it didn’t just cut ties–it also took away his will to live.
“You are a male too, so I’m sure you’ll understand why I’d make this choice, right?”
Calum did understand. If Emma were to leave him now, he would suffer endlessly–each day worse than death. What surprised him was that Damian had truly fallen for her.
Calum studied him deeply and tapped the holographic document. Streams of data transferred silently into his lightcore.
