Chapter 610 Guess Guess Guess
Maybe Corvin had just gotten too used to dealing with Kieran on equal footing.

Even now, standing face–to–face with him, he felt no pressure at all. Not the slightest bit of intimidation, not even the kind you’d expect when dealing with someone powerful.
Kieran said, “I should’ve warned you. You only get one guess a day.”
“That’s fine. I’ll get it right on the first try,” Corvin said with total confidence.
Watching him grin like that, Calum and the others exchanged looks. They all silently agreed–this had to be one of those rare cases where dumb luck worked in someone’s favor.
Meanwhile…
Dahlia sat inside the airship.
She handed Kael a small vial.
“Drink this. You’ll wipe the floor with Marcus once you’re on that battlefield.”
Kael looked at the vial in his hand and frowned.
“I don’t need it. I can beat Marcus without this junk.”
It was something Chitinid gave her. And for all Kael knew, it could be some kind of poison.
There was no way he was drinking it.
Joseph stood to the side. He looked down at the vial and spoke up.
“Ms. Lane, I think Kael’s right. He’s strong enough already. He doesn’t need that stuff to beat Marcus.”
Then he added, “He’ll win Emma’s mates over for you either way.”
A sharp crack rang out as a hand struck skin.
Ratford, Dahlia’s other mate, had smacked Joseph across the face.
“You’ve got some nerve.”
He narrowed his eyes at Joseph.
“When did Ms. Lane ever ask for your opinion?”
Asher, who stood right next to him, immediately backed him up.
“Ratford’s right. Ms. Lane’s just trying to make sure nothing goes wrong. What, you want Kael to blow it and take us all down with him?”

Joseph clenched his fists and glared at both of them.
“That’s not what I meant. I just believe in Kael.”
Ratford gave a cold laugh.
“You believe in him. We don’t.”
He folded his arms across his chest.

“That Marcus kid is no joke. He’s had a nasty reputation for years. Honestly? I don’t think Kael’s ready. His arrogance might get us all killed.”
He turned to Dahlia with a sickeningly sweet smile. “Ms. Lane, you agree with me, right?”
Dahlia nodded with a soft smile. “Yes. Ratford’s absolutely right.”
Ratford arched a brow and gave Joseph and Kael a smug look.
“You heard her. Ms. Lane said I’m right.”
Kael and Joseph both glared at him.
Ratford straightened his shoulders as he met their eyes.
“What are you staring at? Kael, drink the serum already!”
Kael didn’t say a word. He kept his head down, lips pressed tight.
Ratford lost his temper. He stormed over and grabbed Kael by the collar.
‘You seriously think you can ignore Ms. Lane?”
de yanked Kael forward.
‘Then I’ll make you listen myself.”
He didn’t wait for permission. He dragged Kael toward the hallway.
‘Ms. Lane, I’ve got this. I’ll make sure he drinks it, even if I have to pour it down his throat. Once we’re on that Pantheon Battlefield he’s going to beat Marcus–no matter what.”
Asher hooked his arm through Dahlia’s and chimed in.
‘Ms. Lane, Ratford’s right. If Kael won’t listen, he needs a wake–up call.”
Joseph grew anxious as he watched Kael being dragged away.
“Ms. Lane, Kael’s about to go up against Marcus. Maybe now’s not the best time to rough him up?”
Asher scoffed and turned on him.
“Why not? Ratford knows what he’s doing. He’s not going to actually hurt him.”

He squinted at Joseph.
“Or maybe the real problem is you. You’re questioning Ms. Lane too? Are you planning to betray her?”
“I’d never!” Joseph said quickly. “Ms. Lane, please don’t listen to him. I would never betray you. Not ever.”
“That’s enough. All of you.”
Dahlia leaned back on the couch and rubbed her temples.
“Kael’s being disobedient. If Ratford can get him to drink the serum, let him. Marcus isn’t someone we can afford to underestimate.”

Outside.
Ratford shoved Kael into an empty breakroom.
He slammed the door shut behind them. The metal frame rattled with the impact, echoing through the room.
He let out a slow breath. “How’d I do?”
He glanced at the serum in his hand. Then he pulled out a small box from his ring compartment, placed the vial inside, and tucked it away before sealing the ring again.
Kael nodded. “Not bad. She didn’t seem suspicious.”
Ratford curled his lip.
“Gross. I’ve lived through a lot, but I never thought I’d end up bonded to a bug instead of a real female.”
The thought alone made his stomach churn.
He clapped Kael on the shoulder and leaned in close.
“No offense, man, but I don’t think you’ve got what it takes to beat Marcus.”
He dropped his voice lower.
“Once you’re out there on the Pantheon Battlefield, just give up. Let him win.”
A hint of mischief glinted in his eyes.
“That way, we get to be Emma’s mates instead. We’re not actually bonded to that bug. Even if we get tossed, we’ll survive.”
Kael gave him a long look and spoke quietly.
“You shouldn’t be thinking like that.
“If I can’t beat Marcus,” he said, “then there’s no way I’d survive against Lucien and Calum.”
