When Noelle took the tablet, she immediately noticed it wasn't connected to the internet, and all the shows were pre-downloaded. It seemed Carl had planned every detail.

She scrolled for a bit before frowning. "Is there no internet? I want to check the news and watch some reels."

"I'll have to report to Mr. Liddell about that, Ms. Liddell."

Noelle's patience snapped as she tossed the tablet to the floor. "Do you even have to report something this small?"

The nanny silently picked up the tablet with her head hung low.

Studying her, Noelle pointed out. "You don't look the same as the others. Are you a staff member working here?"

"No, Ms. Liddell. We're just here to take care of you, and we were nannies before this."

Nannies? Noelle had been hoping they were from the research team on the island, whom she could probably persuade to help her.

After all, imprisonment was illegal. And since the research team was just staff on the island, she could probably appeal to someone's conscience and reach out to the outside world.

Noelle turned back to the nannies and asked, "Can I borrow your phone for a bit?"

The nanny gave a quick shake of her head. "It's a rule that we're not allowed to give you our phones, Ms. Liddell."

That was the answer Noelle had been expecting, but still, she pressed. "Can you at least make a call for me?"

Again, the nanny shook her head. "Mr. Liddell said we can't do that either. I'm sorry, Ms. Liddell."

Noelle sighed somewhat helplessly. As she stared out at the endless ocean, even the sea was starting to look ugly. After staring for a bit, she went back inside and wandered through the island's interior.

Walking around, she noticed that the place was heavily secured, with tight security measures in place, and every floor had its access card. Every area required separate cards and sometimes passcodes, too.

If Carl decided to restrict her movements, she'd never get past these doors from the top floor.
