**TITLE: My Heart Waited Too Long and Choosing Freedom**
**Chapter 118: Then I’ll Leave**
Amelia took a deep breath, her heart heavy with the weight of her decision. “I want to return to Emberfall Villa. That house was a wedding gift from the Everetts when I married Ethan. I simply wish to reclaim what is rightfully mine.”
Lily, ever the playful friend, shot her a mischievous glance, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Oh, is that so? Since it came from the Everetts, are you secretly hoping for an Everett to move back in with you, in a more… official capacity?”
There was no need to elaborate on whom Lily was hinting at; the implications hung thick in the air.
Amelia felt her cheeks flush a deep crimson, a mix of embarrassment and irritation flooding her senses.
She shot Lily a mock glare, feigning annoyance. “What nonsense are you spouting? I’m leaving now.”
With that, Amelia swung the car door open and stepped out into the cool night air.
But as she did, her heart sank. There, leaning casually against the wall beneath the flickering streetlamp at the studio entrance, was Ethan.
His posture was relaxed, yet something about it felt almost predatory.
Why is he here?
The lightheartedness from her earlier conversation with Lily evaporated the moment she laid eyes on him.
Amelia halted in her tracks, a few steps away from him, and regarded him with an icy stare. “What are you doing here?” she demanded, her voice steady but laced with an underlying tension.
Ethan met her gaze, his expression a complex mix of emotions.
In just a few days, she seemed to have lost weight, and the cool, distant aura that surrounded her felt even more pronounced now.
He approached her slowly, his voice attempting to convey sincerity. “Amelia, I’m here to apologize.”
His words hung in the air, heavy with implication. “Hannah was wrong at the banquet that night. She shouldn’t have hit you.”
“But you retaliated, so let’s just drop it, alright?”
Amelia couldn’t help but let out a cold, silent laugh in her mind.
He made it sound so simple, so trivial.
When she remained silent, Ethan interpreted her stillness as lingering anger, and he pulled out what he believed was his strongest argument.
“And I’ve already told Hannah and her daughter to move out.”
As he said this, he lifted his chin slightly, as if he were a man who had made a monumental sacrifice, waiting for Amelia’s acknowledgment and praise.
Finally, Amelia reacted.
She raised her eyes to meet his, a clear glint of mockery dancing within them, and replied with a half-smile, “Oh? Really? Then why didn’t you consider the promise you made to Jack before he passed away?”
Instantly, Ethan’s expression darkened, his frustration and embarrassment evident.
“Amelia!” he exclaimed, his voice rising in pitch. “Who do you think I did this for? I know having them in our home complicates things between us! I’ve already compromised. What more do you want from me?”
He reached out, attempting to take her hand, his voice softening with desperation. “Stop making this difficult. Come home with me. That’s our home.”
He could only watch helplessly as she drove away, leaving him standing there, feeling like a fool.
The chill of the night wind brushed against his skin, a stark reminder of his solitude.
In a fit of frustration, he punched the wall behind him, the pain radiating through his knuckles a small reprieve from the emotional turmoil churning inside him.
Very good, Amelia.
You’ve really grown wings now.

As they drove towards Lily’s home, the silence in the car was palpable, filled only by the sound of the engine.
Lily gripped the steering wheel tightly, glancing sideways at Amelia, who seemed lost in thought. After a moment of hesitation, she finally broke the silence. “Do you really want to stay at my place?”
Amelia turned to her, a calm yet piercing gaze meeting Lily’s eyes. “Why not? Is there someone you’re hiding there?”
“How could that even be possible?” Lily laughed dryly, shaking her head. “You know me—proudly single and committed to my independence. My house is just me and the air. Of course, you can come!”
“I just thought that since Ethan finally found his conscience and kicked that insufferable mother-daughter duo out, wouldn’t you want to go back and savor your victory? Maybe even gloat a little?”
“Laugh at them?” Amelia’s lips curled into a sardonic smile. “There’s nothing to celebrate. Their departure is only temporary. Knowing Hannah, she’ll never give up. She’ll find a way back, and Ethan…”
Her voice trailed off, the weight of her words hanging in the air as thoughts of uncertainty clouded her mind.
