**TITLE: My Heart Waited Too Long and Choosing Freedom**
**Chapter 121: Octopuses**
Tim stood there, momentarily speechless, as the realization of Mason’s question dawned on him. A chuckle escaped his lips, and he decided to be completely candid. “Just yesterday. It’s still pretty fresh.”
Mason’s response was swift and sharp, a playful laugh escaping him as he remarked, “You animal.” The words hung in the air, both teasing and accusing.
With a dismissive wave, Mason turned away from Tim’s shamelessness, striding purposefully toward Amelia, who was lost in her own little world.
In the meantime, Amelia had fully immersed herself in her own joyful chaos. Clutching a pillow as if it were a microphone, she waved her arms around with reckless abandon, dancing like no one was watching. The carefree spirit she exuded was a rare sight, and it brought a flicker of indulgent affection to Mason’s eyes.
He approached her, bending down to grasp her wrist with a firm yet gentle grip, his strength unmistakable. “Let’s go,” he declared, his tone leaving little room for argument.
Amelia, still dazed from the festivities, looked up at him, a silly smile spreading across her face for reasons she couldn’t quite understand. She stood up, her legs wobbling slightly beneath her, but she didn’t protest.
Mason instinctively extended his other arm, enveloping her in a half-hug, half-carry as he guided her toward the door.
Meanwhile, on the sofa, Lily stirred, quietly opening one eye. She sat up slowly, exhaling a deep breath as she rubbed her stiff neck. Her gaze fell on Tim, who wore a smug grin that made her feel a twinge of unease. “Hey,” she said, her voice laced with concern, “is it really fair of me to set Amelia up like this and just hand her over to Mason?”
Tim leaned closer, taking her hand in his and planting a soft kiss on her palm. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he replied, “Relax, babe. This isn’t setting her up; it’s hitting the target perfectly.”
He continued, a teasing tone in his voice, “If this goes well, you’ll be the top contributor when the wedding happens. Who knows, you might even get a seat at the main table!”
Outside the club, the night air was cool and refreshing, a stark contrast to the warmth inside.
Amelia, still feeling the effects of the alcohol, shivered slightly, and Mason noticed her discomfort immediately.
Without a word, he tightened his arm around her waist, pulling her closer into his protective embrace.
Through the thin fabric of her clothes, she could feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat and the warmth radiating from him.
She buried her face into his solid chest, inhaling the clean, pleasant scent that enveloped him, tinged faintly with whiskey. Rather than sobering her, it lulled her into a deeper sense of drowsiness, as if she had finally found a safe harbor amidst the chaos of the night.
“Mason…” she murmured, looking up at him with her large, watery almond-shaped eyes that sparkled under the dim light of the streetlamps.
She clutched his sleeve, her voice soft and almost childlike as she pleaded, “Can we go look at the stars, please?”
Mason instinctively glanced up at the sky, his heart sinking a little at the sight.
The night sky was overcast, dull and yellowish, devoid of any twinkling stars.
He lowered his gaze back to her hopeful expression and calmly replied, “It’s cloudy tonight. No stars.”
