**My Heart Waited Too Long and Choosing Freedom**
**Chapter 13: Let’s Call the Police**

As anticipated, the moment Hannah’s sobs subsided, her head shot up, and her tear-streaked face transformed into a mask of fury. Her eyes, red and wild, bore into Amelia like daggers. “Amelia! How could you be so heartless? Isla is allergic to mango! You knew that, and yet you still gave her mango juice. Were you trying to kill her?” Her voice rose in pitch, filled with a mix of desperation and accusation.
Amelia’s response was immediate and icy. “You were the one who asked me to bring her that juice,” she retorted, her tone sharp as a blade. “How is this suddenly my fault?”
“I didn’t!” Hannah’s denial came out in a choked sob, her tears flowing even more freely now. “I was in the kitchen the entire time, preparing her medicine. I never touched any juice! Everyone knows Isla is allergic to mangoes. I made sure to get rid of everything that had mango in it. But the moment you walked through that door, she had an allergic reaction. If it wasn’t you, then who else could it be?”
Ethan, who had been silently observing, now wore an expression that darkened like a storm cloud. His gaze, sharp and accusatory, shifted toward Amelia. “Amelia. Did you do this?” His voice was low, almost a growl, filled with a mix of disbelief and anger.
“I did not,” Amelia asserted, striving to keep her voice calm and steady despite the tempest of emotions swirling within her. “I only returned to grab my seal. I was here for just a few minutes. Why would I ever target a child?”
As she spoke, she fished the personal seal out of her bag, hoping to demonstrate that her intentions were innocent, that her presence here was merely a matter of necessity.
But Hannah’s demeanor shifted dramatically. With a sudden burst of madness, she lunged forward, slapping the seal from Amelia’s hand as if it were a deadly weapon. “You planned this from the very beginning!” she screamed, her voice rising to a fever pitch. “Isla bumped into you earlier, and you’ve held a grudge ever since! That’s why you waited until I wasn’t looking and went after her!”
The seal clattered to the ground, producing a sharp, chilling sound that echoed through the room.
Amelia picked it up, her expression blank, her mind racing. She closed her fingers around it tightly, as if it were a lifeline.
When she looked up again, her gaze was as cold as ice. “You’re the child’s mother, yet you didn’t protect her. Instead, you used her to set me up, all to tarnish my reputation. Aren’t you even the slightest bit afraid she might genuinely get hurt? Frankly, I’m starting to doubt she’s even your biological daughter.”
For a fleeting moment, panic flickered across Hannah’s face, a shadow of doubt that quickly vanished, replaced by a wave of desperation.
Then, in an unexpected twist, she dropped to her knees right in front of Amelia. Grabbing the hem of Amelia’s pants, she sobbed uncontrollably, “Ms. Harlow, I was wrong! I’ll take Isla and leave the villa right away! We won’t trouble you again! Please, I’m begging you, don’t hurt Isla. She’s just a child! I’ve already lost my husband. I can’t lose her too; she’s all I have left!”
“Hannah, get up,” Ethan urged, rushing forward to pull her back to her feet, shielding her protectively behind him.
Then, turning to Amelia, he glared at her as if she were a monster. “Amelia, you’ve crossed a line!” he snapped, his voice laced with fury. “No matter how angry you are, you don’t take it out on a child! Do you realize you could have actually killed her?”
The commotion had drawn the attention of passersby in the hallway, who stopped to gawk at Amelia, their expressions filled with disgust.
Amelia felt the weight of their judgment but refused to be cast as the villain in this twisted narrative. She straightened her back, lifted her chin defiantly, and pulled out her phone, making her intentions clear to everyone present.
“Fine,” she declared, her voice steady. “Let’s call the police.”
