Chapter 272 The Final Item
The whole situation made her feel totally restless.
This was all Ethan’s fault!

If he hadn’t gone crazy and pushed the price to something totally unreasonable, how would things have ended up like this?
Now she’d somehow become the center of attention and was stuck accepting this hot potato.
After that lesson, when Tim politely asked if there was anything else she liked, Amelia didn’t even think about it. She shook her head right away.
“That’s enough,” she said with a wry smile. “Let’s not be the biggest suckers at this auction.”
Tim chuckled. “Don’t overthink it. High–end charity auctions like this are really a stage for big companies to show their strength. Even if Mr. Everett hadn’t bought these earrings for you, he would have spent a massive amount of money on something else tonight.”
He paused, sounding more professional. “It’s not just about charity or good PR. It’s also a way to show financial power to the business world–especially to potential partners and rivals. Every time the hammer drops on a huge bid, it’s a silent announcement of power.”
Amelia understood all of that.
She just didn’t want to be the “announcement.”
The drama caused by the earrings slowly faded over the next few items.
After the earlier excitement, the room felt calmer until about half an hour later.
The host’s voice suddenly grew excited again. On the big screen behind him, a bright, beautiful oil painting appeared.
“Ladies and gentlemen! It is time for our grand finale!” the host shouted. “This piece, Amelia in Sunlight, is a masterpiece from a world–famous artist. Museums have been fighting over this for years. Its artistic and collectible value speaks for itself.”
He paused for a second to let the excitement build up, then announced a price that made everyone go silent.
“Starting bid is 30 million dollars!”
“Hiss!”

A collective gasp swept through the room.
Fitashed
The starting price was like a wall too high to climb, instantly blocking out more than 90% of the people there.
At this level, bidding wasn’t about liking the art or having fun anymore. It was a real showdown among the ultra–wealthy.
Anyone who could raise a paddle was a serious player.
What truly caught Amelia off guard was that after a few small opening bids, Ethan raised his paddle.
“Thirty–five million!” His voice sounded cold and determined.
Tim raised his eyebrow in surprise and leaned toward Amelia, clearly amused. “What’s his deal? Don’t tell me he’s planning to buy it for you.
“Maybe he realized you’re mad that he brought Hannah, and he’s trying to win you back with the most expensive thing here?”
Amelia let out a cold laugh and shook her head.
“You’re giving him too much credit.”
She looked over at Ethan’s familiar profile and said calmly, “He doesn’t care about that. His reason for buying this painting is much simpler.
“He lost the earrings to someone on the second floor and was humiliated in public. So he wants to buy the most expensive item to prove he didn’t lose, and he still has the money.
“For Ethan, nothing matters more than his pride and his company’s interests. It’s always been that way.”
Seeing Ethan look like he was ready to spend every last cent on that painting, Tim got excited. He was itching to get in on the action.
“Then should I go? It’s about time Mr. Rowe learned that he’s not the only one who knows how to spend money.”
He reached for the paddle, ready to turn up the heat and make things really hard for Ethan.
“Wait.”
Amelia lightly pressed down on his arm to stop him.
Tim looked back, surprised. Amelia was calmly watching the stage, her face unreadable, as if

“You don’t need to do anything,” Amelia said softly. She sounded very sure of herself. “Plenty of people here want that painting. They’ll fight him for it. Just watch–he won’t last long.”
“Oh?” Tim was curious now. “You’re that sure?”
“I am.” Amelia nodded, her eyes on Ethan’s tense profile. “Don’t be fooled by how Rowe Group’s stock has been soaring lately because of the deal with Everett Group. That’s just market expectations. In reality, the cash he can use right now is very limited.”
