Chapter 279 The Cheating Scandal
At this moment, the cheating scandal trending online was nothing short of lighting a powder keg.
Countless malicious speculations and obscene insults flooded into Amelia’s long–abandoned social media account.
[I told you she was never good enough for Mr. Rowe! And she couldn’t even wait to go find some random guy?]
[How humiliating for the Rowes? How did a shameless woman like this ever marry into them?]
[I feel so bad for my honey–working himself to death out there, only to come home and get cheated on. Divorce her already!]
[Such an innocent, pure–looking face, but turns out she is so wild. Look at how tightly she’s holding him in those photos–clearly not her first time.]
Amelia scrolled through the comments without a trace of expression.
All she felt was wave after wave of cold settling into her bones.
Just then, Ethan’s call came through.
Amelia tugged at the corner of her lips.
She tapped the speaker button.
The moment the call connected, Ethan’s voice–barely containing his towering rage–roared from the phone, “Amelia! You’ve really outdone yourself! Is this how you repay me?!”
Amelia waited until Ethan finished yelling, then asked indifferently, “So what do you want?
“Do you want a divorce?”
There was a pause of several seconds on the other end.
Then, Ethan exploded even harder, shouting, “Amelia! Stop threatening me with divorce every chance you get! I’m asking you–who the hell is that man? You owe me an explanation today!”
Amelia was just about to speak when Mason, beside her, suddenly leaned in, his gaze icy as he stared at the phone on speaker, his voice low and steady as he cut in, “Ethan, what kind of explanation are you looking for?”
The moment his voice was heard, Ethan froze on the other end of the line.

Finistred
He clearly hadn’t expected Amelia to be with Mason at a time like this.
Ethan hadn’t recognized that the blurry figure in the photos was Mason, and upon hearing his voice, his fury miraculously twisted into something close to aggrieved complaint.
“Mason? Why are you with her?
“Don’t you know yet? Amelia was caught hugging another man, and someone took photos and posted them online! Now everyone knows I’ve been cheated on. I just want her to explain who that man is. That’s not unreasonable, is it?”
He rambled on, desperately trying to justify his interrogation, eager to prove his own innocence in front of Mason.
But Mason didn’t give him the slightest chance to keep playing the victim.
“Ethan, clean up the mess around you first before you come questioning Amelia.
“Otherwise, you’ll never be qualified to say those words in front of me.”
With that, Mason reached out and ended the call.
Amelia stared blankly ahead.
Seeing her fragile state, Mason’s chest tightened painfully.
This whole storm, when it came down to it, had started because of him.
The man in the photo was him. The embrace was his.
He fell silent for a moment, then turned to her, his gaze deep and heavy. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke, “Should I tell Ethan that the man in the photo was me?”
The moment the words left his mouth, Amelia refused almost instinctively. “No.”
She took a deep breath and quickly forced herself to calm down.
Meeting Mason’s probing gaze, she shook her head.
“Mason, this is between Ethan and me.
“If you get involved, the nature of it changes. People won’t say you were standing up for me, but instead, they’ll say we were already involved long ago. I can’t drag you into this.”
If he admitted it, Ethan’s ridiculous pride would be completely crushed. He’d only see it as a double betrayal.

Fmished
He’d turn into a rabid beast, dumping all his resentment onto her, and divorce would only drift. even further out of reach.
“Amelia, this isn’t dragging me down. You were wronged, and I will clear things up for you. That’s only right.”
“No.” Amelia shook her head again. She lowered her eyes, staring at her cold fingertips, and said slowly, emphasizing each word, “I don’t need clarification. At least, not right now.
“The divorce waiting period is in effect. There are three days left.
“Let’s just go cold. Let him stew in suspicion. Let public opinion ferment.
“What Ethan cares about most is his pride and the company’s reputation. If this blows up and affects the stock price, do you really think he’ll keep dragging this out with me just for that pathetic sense of possessiveness?
“Maybe, to cut ties with me as fast as possible, he’ll be even more eager than I am to get divorced.”
Mason’s expression darkened.
“No. I don’t agree.”
He reached across the center console and covered the back of her icy hand with his warm palm.
“Amelia, listen to me.” He locked eyes with her, his gaze burning. “If the goal is to make Ethan accept the divorce, there are countless ways. I have a hundred ways to make him let go on his own, but I will never choose a way that hurts you.”
