Chapter 359 Testing the Line
Then, Mason’s large hand gently rested on the top of her head, giving it a light pat.

“Alright, you win,” he chuckled softly in the dark. “So behave yourself when we sleep tonight.”
After he said that, Amelia felt the mattress sink again as he lay back fully.
Before she could pull her arms away from his waist, one of his arms slowly moved behind her and drew her into his chest.
It was a purely protective hug.
But… was that really all?
Wrapped in his arms, Amelia was surrounded by his familiar scent. Yet her heart felt a little restless.
So that was it? Was Mason really not going to do anything tonight?
This was nothing like the scene she had imagined.
Her thoughts started to run wild.
Was it because their relationship wasn’t there yet?
Or was he the kind of man who believed that if certain steps weren’t taken, nothing else should cross the line?
Or maybe he simply didn’t want her that badly?
The moment that thought appeared, alarm bells rang in Amelia’s mind.
No. She had to test this.
A tiny spark of mischief, mixed with strong curiosity, quietly rose in her heart.
She shifted slightly, pretending it was unintentional. Then one finger carefully slid under the hem of his T–shirt.
Her fingertip touched his warm, firm skin.
Her heartbeat skipped.
She didn’t stop. Instead, she grew bolder, slowly moving upward along the smooth lines of his muscles.

power.
Almost the instant her fingers began to move, Mason’s breathing changed.
The steady rhythm broke, turning deep and restrained.
He caught her wandering hand on his stomach, his voice carrying a warning.
“Amelia,” he said softly, “didn’t I tell you to behave?”
His voice was low, and in the darkness, it sounded dangerously alluring.
That small spark of revenge in Amelia’s heart was fully satisfied. She defended herself with confidence. “I did behave; I was just testing your character.”
“Hmm.”
He gave a laugh that meant more than it sounded.
The next second, Amelia felt her other hand get caught, too.
Mason easily held both of her wrists and pressed them down just below her shoulders, using a strength she couldn’t fight.
“Stop testing,” he said, pulling her closer into his arms. His chin rested on the top of her head. “My character passed. It really can’t handle tests like that.”
He paused. His warm breath brushed through her hair.
“If you keep messing around and I can’t sleep, I’ll tie you up.”
The threat sounded half annoyed, half serious. Somehow, it made her face heat up.
With her hands pinned like that, Amelia couldn’t move at all. She couldn’t cause trouble
anymore.
She was held tight in a warm, safe embrace. Listening to his heartbeat, slowly steady, her last bit of restless energy faded away and turned into sleepiness.
In her hazy state, she really did become a well–behaved girl, wrapped in Mason’s arms, and slept through until morning.
The next morning, Amelia shifted and felt like something was wrapped around her.
She opened her eyes in confusion. The first thing she saw was a smooth, solid chest.

She was clinging to Mason like an octopus, arms and legs all over him.
The position was extremely intimate, and nothing was proper about it.
Amelia’s brain stopped working for three seconds.
Even though she knew nothing had happened that night, the sight in front of her almost scared her out of her mind.
She scrambled to move away from him, her movements full of panic and guilt.
Amelia didn’t even dare to check if Mason was awake. Holding her racing heart, she fled straight into the bathroom.
The moment she left, the man who had seemed fast asleep slowly opened his eyes.
The truth was, he hadn’t slept much for the whole night.
Holding her soft, warm body all night had been a sweet kind of torture for Mason.
Every minute had tested his control. He had to use every bit of restraint he had to keep those surging thoughts from taking over.
Half an hour later, Mason, Amelia, Tim, and Lily met in the restaurant for breakfast.
Warm sunlight poured in through the floor–to–ceiling windows. The table was set with a lavish breakfast.
While Tim went off to talk with Mason about the day’s route, Lily took her glass of milk and slid into the seat beside Amelia. She nudged her with an elbow.
“So,” she asked with a mischievous grin, “how did you sleep last night?”
Amelia was eating oatmeal. The question nearly made her choke. Her expression stiffened for a second. She answered vaguely, “Pretty good. It was …
warm.”
