Chapter 369 Feel It
His chest vibrated slightly as he spoke, and she felt it clearly through the thin fabric presse her cheek.
Amelia was still stuck in her sadness, her thoughts slow and foggy. Leaning against him, she asked foolishly, “Lose it?”
Her innocent question made Mason sigh helplessly.
He loosened his arms a bit, but he didn’t let her body go.
Lowering his head, he brushed his thumb over the tears on her face.
“It’s not that I don’t want you.”
Amelia’s lashes fluttered.
Mason met her eyes, his voice dropping even lower. “I’ve been thinking about this for years.”
Seeing her confusion and disbelief, he patiently explained, “I stopped because I don’t think t is the right way for us.”
He paused, as if he was choosing his words carefully in his head first, wanting her to truly understand.
“What kind of place is a hotel? We stay together, then wake up and go our own ways. That’s what people do when they just want something quick with no meaning.
“Amelia, something as important as our first time shouldn’t happen somewhere that feels temporary and empty. Do you get that?”
He kept going as her eyes slowly widened. “Do you know how hard it was for me to hold you every night and stop myself from initiating anything? I was scared I wouldn’t be able to. I was scared one reckless moment would ruin what I wanted us to have. That’s why I kept my distance and didn’t dare go further.”
So that distance and seeming coldness were actually him holding back?
That realization shocked Amelia.
Seeing she was still stunned, Mason didn’t explain more.
He took her cold hand and placed it over his chest.
“Feel it.”

Under her palm, the fabric was warm. Beneath it, his heart was racing wildly, pounding hard and uneven, like it wanted to break free.
“It’s about to jump out of my chest,” Mason said, looking straight at her. “Now tell me–does thi seem like I’m not attracted to you? Like you’re ‘bad‘?”
Heat rushed to Amelia’s face until it burned.
She lifted her head and met his deep gaze, asking uncertainly, “Really?”
“Really.” Mason released her.
“There are many ways to check someone’s feelings. Using something this extreme isn’t the righ
one.
“Have you even thought about it? What if I really hadn’t stopped and taken you right then? After things cooled down and life went back to normal, wouldn’t you look back one day and feel it all happened too fast?”
Slowly, Amelia saw the careful, almost fragile gentleness hidden in his eyes.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want her–it was that he wanted her too much to treat it lightly.
At last, she gathered the courage to say what scared her most.
“Look, I know I shouldn’t compare you to Ethan…” She lowered her head. “But this matters to me. I’m scared it’ll end the same way.”
Mason’s eyes darkened for a moment, then steadied.
He nodded slightly. “I know.”
He pulled her into his arms again.
“If you want to cry, then cry. Let it all out–everything you’ve been hurt by before.”
Amelia finally broke. She pressed her face into his neck and started to bawl.
Mason just held her, letting her tears soak into his shoulder until her sobs faded into quiet. sniffles.
Only then did he speak near her ear, his voice carrying another meaning. “But after tonight, if you cry in my arms again, it’ll be for a different reason.”

Mason’s lips curved into something dangerous. The softness in his eyes vanished, replaced by burning sparks.
A chill ran down Amelia’s spine. She shivered and understood right away.
With Mason’s patient, controlled, and very grudgy personality, once they got home, everything she’d done tonight would probably be paid back with interest.
Their week–long trip was almost over.
In the hotel room, Amelia was half–kneeling by the suitcase, neatly folding the clothes she’d worn over the past few days.
Everything felt peaceful and unhurried–until a shar
Lily and Tim both froze and looked toward the door.
Amelia paused as well, lifting her head in confusion.
At this hour, it didn’t sound like room service.
Mason stepped out of the bathroom in his robe.

He walked to the door and checked the peephole. His brows drew together slightly.
