“It’s okay,” Amelia said with a small, gentle smile. “No need to change to other places. This place is fine.”

Mason looked at her deeply. He didn’t ask anything else. He just tightened his grip on her hand.

The two of them walked into the restaurant, side by side.

When they pushed open the private dining room door, Lily and Tim were already there, just like they expected.

Mason gave Tim a brief, calm glance. He pulled out a chair and sat down with Amelia.

Halfway through dinner, Amelia’s phone rang.

It was a young designer from the design team. There was an urgent detail in a project plan that needed her confirmation right away. Amelia felt the private room was too noisy. She lowered her voice and said, “I need to take this call. I’ll be back soon.”

Mason’s eyes followed her until she disappeared behind the door. Only then did he look away.

Amelia walked to the end of the hallway outside the room. There was a small balcony there. It was much quieter.

She leaned against the railing and carefully discussed every detail with the designer, offering revision ideas and corrections.

More than ten minutes later, the call finally ended.

She turned around, ready to head back.

But the moment she turned, she ran straight into Wade.

Wade Kain was the owner of this restaurant. And one of Ethan’s childhood friends.

Wade froze for a second when he saw her. Then he slid both hands into his pockets and leaned against the wall, blocking her path in a lazy, careless way,

“Amelia?” He raised an eyebrow, like he’d just found something surprising. “What are you doing here?”

His

eyes moved over her openly, without any shame.

Today, Amelia was wearing a camel–colored coat. Her long hair was softly curled. Her makeup was light but polished.

She looked completely different from the woman he remembered, the one who dressed simply and barely wore makeup.

“Hmm.” Amelia ignored him. She shifted sideways, trying to walk past him.

Wade stepped sideways too, blocking her again.

“Hey, I’m talking to you. Did you come alone?” He sounded very interested in her change.

Amelia stopped and looked at him coldly.

Her attitude annoyed him, but then he thought of something. Wade’s eyes moved past her shoulder, toward the private room behind her, the one Mason was in.

Realization hit him. His expression turned playful.

“Ohhh.” Wade dragged out. “You’re here having dinner with Mason, aren’t you?”

He knew Mason’s friend had booked a table here tonight.

Wade simply didn’t expect the person dining with Mason to be Amelia.

Amelia frowned slightly.

She met his eyes and asked calmly, “And if I am?”

Her honesty surprised him again.

Wade pushed down the contempt he always held for her. He forced a fake smile, straightened his back, and spoke in a friendlier tone.

“Hey, we’re all friends here,” he said casually. “Since you’re so close to him, can you introduce me after dinner? I want to talk business with him.”

He said it like it was completely natural, as if Amelia was still someone who depended on Ethan to survive. As if he had the right to ask anything from her as Ethan’s friend.

Amelia almost laughed from anger.

Now she understood why she used to hate Ethan’s friends.

Because they had never respected her.

She looked at Wade coldly and turned it down firmly. “No.”

The smile on Wade’s face froze.

He couldn’t believe what he just heard. This woman barely dares to speak in front of him and Ethan, but she dares to refuse him?

“What did you say?”

“I said no,” Amelia repeated. The resolve in her eyes remained firm. “If you really have ability, you don’t need anyone to introduce you, and he’ll still consider working with you. If you don’t, even if I speak for you, it won’t matter.”

Wade’s face changed completely. Anger and embarrassment mixed together.

Amelia wasn’t intimidated by his threat. Instead, she let out a cold laugh.

“Wade, aren’t you and your friends quick to get intel?

“Don’t you know? Ethan and I are already divorced.

“So go ahead and tell him. Tell him who I’m with. I don’t care.”

She didn’t even bother looking at him again. Amelia walked right back to the private room.

Wade stood there, frozen like he’d been struck by lightning.
