Chapter 434 The Storm in the Rowes
“Do you know what we are now?”
Mason’s tone made it clear. He was reminding her.
Amelia was no longer a Rowe. No longer Ethan’s wife.
She understood what he was worried about.
She leaned closer and placed a soft, serious kiss at the corner of his lips.
Gentle. Brief. Certain.
I know,” she said, looking straight into his eyes. “Don’t worry.”
The tightness in Mason’s eyes eased. A small, satisfied smile touched his lips.
He lifted his hand and brushed his thumb lightly over the spot she had kissed.
Go on.”
Amelia stepped out of the car and closed the door.
She stood by the curb and watched his car drive away.
Then she took a deep breath and turned toward the hospital entrance.
But the moment she turned, a familiar figure she caught from the corner of her eye made her pause.
Not far away, behind a massive support column, Ethan was standing there.
His eyes, once sharp like a hawk’s, were now bloodshot. They were full of emotions too complicated to
name.
He rarely smoked. At least, during their marriage, she had almost never seen him touch a cigarette.
But now, one burned halfway between his fingers. Pale smoke curled upward, blurring his dark expression.
From where he stood, it was obvious. He had seen her kiss Mason. Every second of it.
The jealousy in his eyes was dark and open. No attempt to hide it.
Amelia quickly steadied herself.
Her face went blank as she walked straight toward him.
“How’s Grandma?” she asked, getting straight to the point.
Ethan didn’t answer.
His eyes swept over her from head to toe, then stopped on her calm face.

He crushed the cigarette hard between his fingers, almost bending it in half.
“So,” he said instead, “you’re seeing Mason now?”
His voice carried anger. Betrayal.
Like she was supposed to belong to him forever, even if he had thrown her away.
Amelia found this hilarious.
She nodded slightly, her tone distant. “You saw it yourself, didn’t you?”
The simple admission hit Ethan like a punch.
He suddenly threw the cigarette to the ground and crushed it hard under the toe of his expensive leather
hoe, the motion full of violent anger with nowhere to go.
Amelia!” he said, almost through clenched teeth. “Are you sure he won’t care that you’re divorced? Do you even know if he’s serious about you or just having fun?”
Amelia let out a cold laugh at his rage from nowhere.
Ethan, I came today for Fiona. Not to argue with you about this pointless stuff.”
The look in her eyes made him freeze.
He stared at her for a long time, searching for even a tiny bit of pretending. But there was nothing. Only listance. “Come with me,” he finally said, giving up.
Amelia followed quietly. Three steps apart. Like two parallel lines that would cross paths.
The hospital hallway was painfully quiet. Only their footsteps echoed through the space.
The heavy silence made it difficult to breathe.
On the way to the ICU, Ethan finally explained Fiona’s condition in short, flat sentences.
‘My dad…” he said, and his voice turned mocking without meaning to, “came home with his lover and his illegitimate son. He’s demanding they be officially accepted into the family.”
Amelia stopped walking for a second.
Lover? Illegitimate son?
That’s a lot to take in.
In the six years she was married, she had only seen Derek a few times.
He had always been cold to both Ethan and Grace. He stayed outside most of the time and rarely came home.
She never expected him to bring his lover and son home openly.
