Chapter 440 A Surprising Decision
The relatives who had been shouting in anger just moments ago suddenly went silent. Their faces turned red, but not a single word came out.
Oscar gave Ethan an approving glance and adjusted his glasses. “If there are no objections,” he said calmly, “I will now read the final part of the will.”
Everyone thought the matter was settled. One by one, they sat back down, their faces full of frustration and resentment.
“Under Mrs. Fiona’s name, the private estate located outside the city, Evershade Estate, along with all furnishings and artworks inside, will be fully granted to Ms. Amelia Harlow.”
“What?! Why her?!”
“Mr. Zimmer, are you sure this will was written by Fiona herself?”
Voices exploded across the room.
In the middle of the noise, Amelia froze. She was completely stunned.
For a second, she even thought she had misheard.
“Mr. Zimmer,” she said slowly, still trying to process it, “are you sure there isn’t a mistake? I’m no longer part of the family. Why would Fiona leave anything to me?”
This made no sense.
She had heard of Evershade Estate before. It was Fiona’s favorite place to stay. The property alone was worth a fortune.
How could something like that be left to a former granddaughter–in–law?
“That’s right! She knows she’s an outsider! Why should she inherit anything?”
“She had divorced Ethan; what right does she have to take anything from us?”
The anger the extended family had been holding back finally exploded, all aimed at Amelia.
Surrounded by accusations, Amelia felt dizzy. Her head spun.
Without thinking, she looked toward Ethan, hoping for an explanation.
Ethan was frowning as well, clearly just as confused. He knew nothing about this.
In the chaos, Oscar remained calm.
He opened his folder, took out an envelope, and walked around the table until he stopped in front of
Amelia.
“Ms. Harlow,” he said evenly, “there is no mistake. Mrs. Fiona did not explain her reason for this gift, but

she left a handwritten letter and instructed me to personally give it to you.”
The thin envelope felt incredibly heavy in Amelia’s hands.
Then Oscar spoke again.
“One more thing,” he added, his gaze sweeping across the room.
Finished
“The last time Mrs. Fiona revised and confirmed this will was after the couple publicly announced their divorce.”
If the gift itself was shocking, this detail made it undeniable.
It meant Fiona had clearly known Amelia was no longer part of the family, but she still chose to leave her the estate.
“T–this is impossible!” one of the relatives shouted, her voice sharp. “Fiona must be senile!”
“Exactly! What has she ever done for the family? She’s divorced and still wants a share! Keep dreaming!”
Instead of calming down, the family grew angrier that the will was proven legal.
Amelia’s face turned pale. She gripped the letter tightly, feeling like countless eyes were cutting into her.
At that moment, Ethan stood up. His voice was low and steady as he spoke to Amelia, “Grandma left it to you,” he said. “You should accept it.”
Amelia met his gaze and shook her head hard.
“No,” she said firmly. “This isn’t something I should take. I don’t want it.”
If she accepted it, it would only create another tie between her and the Rowes.
Oscar stepped in to end the farce.
“The will has now been fully read,” he announced. “When Mrs. Fiona made this will, a notary was present the entire time. All procedures were legal and valid. The documents will be processed after she passes away.”
At this point, there was nothing left to argue.
The Rowes were unwilling, but they knew they couldn’t challenge a notarized will.
They shot Amelia angry looks, cursed under their breath, and left the meeting room one by one.
Soon, only Amelia, Ethan, and Oscar remained.
