Chapter 508 The Child’s Silence
This decision was practically the same as stripping Hannah of all control over Isla, and cutting off her last chance to keep clinging to Ethan and living off him.
“No!” Hannah immediately shouted in protest. “I won’t agree to this! Isla’s still so young–she can’t leave my side! She’s the only family I have left! Ethan, are you really gonna be this heartless and tear us apart?”
She clutched Isla tightly in her arms, as if the child weren’t her daughter at all, but a certificate guaranteeing her future wealth and comfort.
‘If you insist on sending Isla away, then I’m going with her! I’m her mother; wherever she goes, I go!”
Listening to her shameless words, Ethan realized for the first time in his life that someone’s sense of shame could truly be nonexistent. Even now, she wasn’t thinking about her daughter’s future–she was only thinking about how to keep attaching herself to him and continue living like a parasite.
He couldn’t help letting out a cold laugh.
Do you really think you still qualify as a mother?”
Ethan’s words echoed through the cramped living room, every syllable landing like a merciless judgment gainst Hannah.
Hannah’s arms tightened unconsciously around Isla.
Qualify?
Of course, she knew she was a terrible mother.
But she couldn’t admit it.
f she did, she would truly have nothing left.
Ethan then gave a slight signal to the bodyguards waiting quietly by the door. “Take her outside first. Have her wait in the car. I wanna talk to Isla alone.”
His intention couldn’t have been clearer–he was separating her from Isla.
‘No!” Hannah finally found her voice again.
She stared in panic as two tall bodyguards stepped toward her.
Afraid that Ethan might get Isla to say something, Hannah quickly shouted, “Isla! Look at me! Mr. Rowe is trying to split us up! He doesn’t want us anymore! But you can’t abandon me, do you hear me? You’re my only hope now!”
Isla had already been frightened out of her wits. When she heard the word ‘abandon, her entire body
trembled like a leaf in the wind.
Ethan’s eyes suddenly sharpened.

Without him even saying a word, one of the bodyguards stepped forward and planted his broad frame between Ethan and Isla, his gaze fixed sharply on Hannah as he spoke in a low, commanding voice. “Ms. Gray, please cooperate.”
The overwhelming pressure of absolute strength instantly crushed Hannah’s hysterical resistance.
In the end, under the bodyguards‘ firm escort, Hannah was taken out of the room.
The heavy iron door slammed shut, cutting off her heart–wrenching screams from the outside.
Ethan let out a long breath, yet the weight pressing against his chest didn’t ease at all.
He lowered himself into a crouch so he was level with the trembling Isla. He tried his best to make his voice sound as gentle and harmless as possible.
Isla, don’t be scared.” He reached out and wiped the tears from her cheeks. “I’m here.”
sla’s tense body relaxed just a little.
Ethan patiently waited for her to calm down before asking softly, “Isla, tell me something… Does your nom treat you well most of the time?”
sla’s lips trembled slightly, and her eyes immediately reddened.
Treat her well? She didn’t know how to answer that.
The fear of being locked in a dark little room, the pain of having her palms struck over tiny mistakes, and he terrifying look on her mother’s face whenever she lost control–all of it flashed through her mind.
But her mother’s words echoed through her small head like a spell.
Isla, remember this. No matter how nice Mr. Rowe is, he isn’t your real father. Once he has his own child omeday, he won’t care about you anymore. In this world, I’m the only one who truly loves you. You must
ever betray me, do you understand?”
sla had lost her father at such a young age, and the idea of being abandoned terrified her far more than
nost children.
She had always felt deeply insecure, and the only person she believed she could rely on seemed to be Hannah–her own mother.
She was afraid that if she told the truth, Ethan might think she was a bad child.
Will he really abandon me forever, just like Mommy saidy
In the end, fear defeated her sense of injustice.
She lowered her head deeply, tears still clinging to her long lashes. “Yes.”
Ethan wasn’t surprised by that answer at all.
A child who had been controlled and intimidated for so long would never easily speak the truth.

Finished
Ethan felt a sharp ache in his heart.
He didn’t keep pressing her, instead choosing another approach.
“I remember… your dad loved you a lot too. So tell me–was he really as bad to you as your mom says?”
