Chapter 510 The Collapse of Everything
Maybe… he’s right.
Under Ethan’s gentle yet unwavering gaze, the balance in Isla’s heart slowly began to tip.
The fear that had taken root deep inside her was gradually replaced by a faint glimmer of hope.
At last, she slowly nodded.
The moment she did, the tension that had been gripping Ethan’s heart finally eased.

When the door opened again, Hannah–who had been waiting outside the entire time–immediately rushed forward.
But the scene she expected–her daughter crying as she ran into her arms–never happened.
Ethan’s tall figure stood like a mountain, firmly shielding Isla behind him.
And the little girl holding his hand only peeked her small head out from beside him, looking at Hannah with an expression she had never shown before.
The dependence that used to fill her eyes was gone, replaced by cautious distance.
‘Mommy,” Isla said quietly, “I’m going to the place Ethan talked about. I don’t wanna be a bad kid by your side anymore.”
‘Bad kid?”
Hannah’s eyes widened in disbelief, as if she had just been struck by lightning.
She stared at her own daughter in shock, completely unable to comprehend how the carefully polished chess piece she had spent years shaping had slipped entirely out of her control in such a short time–and was now even accusing her!
She had abandoned her!
The rage of betrayal instantly swallowed Hannah’s remaining reason.
But what she didn’t know–or perhaps had always refused to admit–was that what she had done to Isla had long crossed the line of what any mother should ever do.
At an age when a child should’ve been carefree and innocent, she had spent day after day teaching her how to read people’s expressions and use tears to gain sympathy, how to please Ethan and win his favor so Hannah could secure her place as the future Mrs. Rowe.
She had even taught the child how to subtly target Amelia.
And when her schemes grew more aggressive, she had once viciously encouraged the young Isla to push an unsuspecting Amelia down the stairs!
If Hannah hadn’t reacted quickly that time–threatening and bribing the housemaid, Elodie, to take the

blame–Isla might’ve ended up with the stain of juvenile crime at such a young age.
Half an hour later, Ethan left with Isla.
As he walked away, the merciless words he’d spoken continued echoing in Hannah’s ears.

“I’m taking Isla with me for now. You have one week to move out of this house. If you’re still here after that, I’ll send people to remove you by force.
“The only reason I haven’t driven you to a dead end yet right now is out of what little past connection we had. Don’t keep pushing your luck and make things even worse for yourself.”
Hannah stood there stiffly, frozen in place.
Only after Ethan and Isla had completely disappeared from view did her mind slowly begin to function again.
‘Ethan!”
Her hysterical scream shattered the silence.
She spun around and smashed a glass ornament in the living room into pieces with furious force.
Ethan, you sick backstabbing bastard! You’re just like Jack–you’re both men who can’t be counted on!”
With her hands on her hips and her chest heaving violently, she cursed without the slightest regard for dignity.
She accused Ethan of being heartless, of forgetting past kindness, of ignoring all the years of connection between them.
Then her gaze suddenly turned venomous as she glared at the couch where Isla had just been sitting. grinding her teeth as she growled, “Isla is nothing but an ungrateful little snake! I should’ve gotten rid of her long ago!”
Back then, when the Grays had gone bankrupt and fallen from grace, Hannah’s dream of marrying into the Rowes had completely shattered.
Even though Ethan had feelings for her, he would never marry a woman whose family had already collapsed.
Watching her dream of wealth and status slip away, Hannah had been frantic.
That was when she set her sights on Jack. The Boyds weren’t nearly as powerful as the Rowes, but they were still a wealthy family.
Most importantly, Jack was easy to manipulate and had always worshipped her like a goddess.
When he found out she was pregnant, he immediately held a wedding with her despite his family’s objections, giving her a legitimate place in the Boyds.
But nobody expected that the good days wouldn’t even last a few years before Jack died in that accident.
