Chapter 515 Freedom After a Lifetime
Time seemed to freeze at that very moment.
Grace’s eyes slowly widened as she stared at the document, as if trying to see through every single word printed on it.
Then her eyes reddened at a visible speed, tears blurring her vision.
Divorcing Derek.
Ever since the day she discovered her husband’s affair, it had been the one thing she dreamed of more than anything.
But back then, Ethan had still been young, and her parents, brothers, and sisters–in–law had taken turns persuading her to endure it for the sake of the child.
Later, Fiona also spoke with her, urging her to think about Ethan’s future and the reputation of the powerful Rowes, asking her to endure it for the bigger picture.
And so she endured. For most of her life.
She endured until the bright, lively young woman she once was turned into a bitter wife in a wealthy family, her heart long since gone cold.
The daughters–in–law of the Rowes never seemed to have smooth marriages.
Fiona herself had endured a lifetime of a cold, loveless political marriage, and until the day she died, she never received even the smallest bit of warmth from her husband.
And Grace, not long after marrying into the family, had watched her husband openly keep mistresses outside, turning her into the laughingstock of the entire upper–class circle.
Amelia’s marriage to Ethan seemed to have followed the same path.
But Amelia wasn’t like the women who had been bound by tradition for their entire lives.
She was far braver and clearer–minded.
She knew exactly what she didn’t want, and she had the courage to insist on a divorce rather than continue enduring a broken marriage.
Grace held the divorce agreement that had arrived decades too late, her body trembling slightly.
Hot tears finally slipped down from the corners of her eyes.
Watching his mother’s shaking figure, something deep inside Ethan twisted painfully.
He stepped forward quietly and wrapped his arms around her thin shoulders from behind.
“Mom, from now on, I’m here. No one will ever trap you again.”

He paused, his gaze drifting toward the rose garden at the far end of the yard. The season had already passed, leaving nothing but bare branches swaying in the wind.
“You can travel the world, or you can fill this entire garden with the flowers you like. You won’t have to care about what anyone else wants anymore. Go do everything you once wanted to do but never had the chance to.”
Grace’s crying gradually slowed. She leaned against her son’s broad and steady chest, feeling a sense of support she had never experienced before.
All the grievances and resentment she had carried for decades seemed to finally find a place to escape through this embrace and those few simple words, dissolving in an instant.
She turned around and looked carefully at her son, her eyes still wet with tears.
He really looked so much like his father, with the same sharp, handsome features.
But in those deep eyes, there was none of Derek’s cold indifference.
“I may finally be free…” Grace raised her hand and gently brushed away the exhaustion at the corner of her son’s eyes, her voice filled with concern. “But what about you?”
She understood better than anyone.
For the men of the Rowes–from David to Derek–marriage had always been more about alliances and obligations than love. To them, love was as light as a feather.
But her son… was different.
Ethan truly loved Amelia, the kind of love where someone was held carefully at the very center of his
heart.
He had never once planned to divorce her. All the harm and misunderstandings that happened before were nothing more than the foolishness and stubbornness of a man whose eyes had been clouded.
When Amelia’s name came up, Ethan’s eyes dimmed slightly.
He released Grace and straightened his back, determination settling into his posture. “You don’t need to worry about me. The mistakes I made are mine. I’ll figure out how to fix them and make up for them.”
Seeing the expression on her son’s face, Grace felt both proud and heartbroken at the same time.
She wiped her tears and suddenly seemed to remember something. Grabbing his arm anxiously, she said, “Ethan, what if… I go talk to Amelia? I didn’t treat her well before either. I always sided with outsiders and let her suffer a lot. I’ll go apologize to her. I’ll promise her that no one in the Rowes will ever treat her that way again. Maybe for the sake of what you two once had, she won’t really abandon you.”
“Don’t!” Ethan stopped her almost immediately.
His reaction was so intense that Grace froze for a moment.
Ethan took a deep breath, forcing his voice to soften, though the bitterness in his eyes only deepened. “Mom, please don’t get involved in this, okay? Her life has just finally settled down. If you go looking for

her, it’ll only bring her pressure and trouble. I don’t want to force her with anyone or anything anymore.”
He had finally learned how to see things from her perspective. But it seemed… it had come far too late.
Grace looked at the determination in her son’s eyes and could only let out a long, quiet sigh.
