It had been a long time since the family sat together like this. Amelia was stuck between Mason and th armrest of the couch. She could feel the steady warmth coming from him. The awkward tension from upstairs slowly melted away in the cozy atmosphere.

She quietly lifted her eyes. Her gaze passed over the pile of fruit on the coffee table and landed on Eva across from her.

He was still sitting calmly in his wheelchair, watching the TV. He looked peaceful, as if he was fully part the happy scene. But Amelia noticed something else. His eyes weren’t really focused on the screen. The seemed distant, carrying a faint sense of loneliness.

After watching for a while, Evan finally moved his wheelchair slightly. “It’s getting late,” he said softly to everyone. “I’m a little tired. I’ll head back to my room and rest.”

“Evan, I’ll take you,” Mason said as he immediately stood up.

Amelia also stood up and watched as Mason skillfully pushed the wheelchair, escorting Evan toward his

room.

Under the warm lights, their shadows stretched long across the floor. One tall and strong. The other sitting, yet still holding his back straight, showing quiet strength.

Just as Mason pushed him into the room, Evan’s phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket.

He took it out and glanced at the screen. The faint glow of the phone lit up his face. On the screen was a phone number with no name saved.
