Chapter 578 Status Change
The pendant looked simple and a little old–fashioned. Faint lines of scripture were carved on it, along with the light mark of a pale seal.
It was a sign that the pendant had been blessed at St. Albert’s Cathedral.
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat.
St. Albert’s was the most famous cathedral in the city. It was always full of worshippers and was known for its strong spiritual presence.
Because of that, the priests there rarely blessed personal items anymore–especially objects meant for private protection. Those blessings had become very rare and highly valued.
Amelia had no idea how Mason managed to get one.
When did he even put this on me?
Was it last night?
In that moment, all her complaints about not receiving a gift disappeared.
She touched the pendant, feeling its smooth surface. A satisfied smile slowly spread across her lips.
“Well, in that case, I’ll forgive you.
“Actually, I prepared a gift for you too. But it’s in my room.”
Mason looked at her proud little expression and deliberately glanced up and down at her with a teasing look. His smile turned a little wicked. “So do you want me to carry you there to get it?”
Amelia glared at him stubbornly and struggled to sit up in bed. The movement pulled at her sore muscles, but she still refused to show weakness. “Don’t underestimate me! I can go by myself!”
As she spoke, she quickly threw off the blanket and got dressed.
To make herself look confident, she even straightened her back and found a good excuse. “It’s Christmas today. I’m going to do everything myself. That way I’ll have good luck for the future!”
After saying that, she lifted her chin and walked past him, bravely heading toward her room.
Mason leaned against the headboard and watched her leave, his eyes full of affection.
It didn’t take long before Amelia returned. In her hands was a delicate dark blue velvet box.
She climbed back onto the bed and opened the box in front of Mason.
Inside lay a pair of cufflinks.
The cufflinks had a striking design. The base was silver, holding a small piece of polished onyx that was smooth like glass. Across the black stone, two overlapping oak leaves were traced in thin golden lines,

The moment Mason saw the unique design, he knew it wasn’t something you could just buy in a store.
He looked up at her and asked softly, “Did you make this yourself?”
Amelia’s checks turned slightly red. She nodded first, then shook her head, looking a little embarrassed. “Not completely. I designed the pattern. I searched for a long time before finding the perfect shape for the oak leaves. But the final piece was made by a professional craftsman. I don’t have skills like that yet.”
She didn’t mention how many books she had searched through or how many sketches she had thrown away before finally creating that design.
Mason lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Thank you. I really like it.”
Hearing his approval made Amelia’s heart feel warm and sweet.
Mason put the cufflinks back into the box. But at the same time, he grabbed her hand and pulled her back into his arms.
He buried his face into the curve of her neck and took a deep breath of her soft scent. His voice came out low and slightly hoarse. “This is bad. I really don’t want to let you get up again.”
His warm breath brushed against her sensitive skin, making Amelia shiver.
She almost called him a jerk. But then she remembered it was Christmas, and she shouldn’t be cursing today.
So, the words she wanted to say were forced back down. Instead, she just complained, “You’re so unfair!”
The two of them stayed close for a little while longer on the bed. Soon, Nora’s cheerful voice came from downstairs, calling them to come eat breakfast.
Amelia felt as if she had been saved. She quickly pushed Mason away and rushed into the bathroom.
After getting ready, the two of them went downstairs together.
Nora had already prepared breakfast.
The moment Amelia sat down at the table, Nora and Evan–who sat in his wheelchair–seemed to speak at the same time. “Amelia, Merry Christmas.” They handed her a big present.
Amelia accepted it happily and thanked them again and again. But she had prepared something too. From the pocket behind her, she suddenly pulled out three small gifts of different sizes, almost like a magic trick, and handed them to Nora, Evan, and Hayden, who had been watching eagerly.
Nora took the gift and felt it in her hands, clearly touched. “Oh my, this is the first time I’ve ever received a gift from Amelia,” she said with emotion.
Evan watched the scene with a gentle smile. He teased lightly, “Well, once her status changes in the future, it won’t just be once a year. She’ll have to give you a gift every holiday.”
Everyone at the table understood what he meant. The “status change,” of course, meant that one day Amelia would marry Mason and officially become Nora’s daughter–in–law.

Nora laughed happily, her smile wide as she nodded again and again. “That sounds perfect to me!”
