Chapter 590 Evan Speaks the Truth
Evan’s fingers paused slightly on the wheelchair controls.
A strange look flickered in his eyes.
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he slowly turned the wheelchair until he was facing Wilda.
“Grandma,” he said calmly, “if you came today because you need Mason’s help, then why did you speak to Amelia like that the moment you walked in? You know how much Mason cares about her.”
Wilda’s face darkened.
Her voice rose, filled with cold pride. “That’s different! Pedro is family. He’s Mason’s cousin. Of course family helps family. But what is Amelia? She’s an outsider!”
“An outsider?” Evan repeated. A faint, almost mocking smile touched his lips. “That ‘outsider‘ is Mason’s girlfriend now.”
“So what?” Wilda snorted. “Young people date all the time. They get together, then break up. It’s normal. Mason might be blinded right now, but it won’t last. I will not sit back and watch him get fooled by some woman with a shady background. I’m going to shut down her schemes before they go any further!”
Evan let out a soft sigh, a hint of helplessness in his tone.
“Grandma, you know Mason. He may seem easygoing, but when it comes to important things–especially relationships–he never jokes around. If he can stand in front of the whole family and say Amelia is his girlfriend, then she is someone very important to him.”
He laid out the facts clearly, hoping to break through her prejudice.
But in front of Wilda’s stubbornness, his effort felt useless.
“No!” she snapped, firm as ever. “I will never allow someone shady like Amelia to marry into this family! If Mason just wants to have fun, fine. But anything more? Absolutely not!”
“Someone shady?” Evan frowned slightly. He looked at her with quiet surprise, unable to understand how her bias had become so deep.
“Grandma, I remember very clearly. When I first took over the company, you told me not to judge people by their background. You said we shouldn’t decide someone’s worth just based on their family. So why is it different when it comes to Amelia?
“She lived with us for years. You saw it yourself. She was always polite and respectful. She never caused trouble. She kept to herself and never brought any problems to the family. So why do you have such a strong bias against her?”
Being questioned so directly by her grandson made Wilda flush with anger and embarrassment.
She avoided Evan’s eyes and argued stubbornly. That’s because I later found out she’s not as innocent as she looks! Her character isn’t good either!”

As if to make her claim sound more convincing, she raised her voice. “At first, I didn’t pay much attention to her. She kept a low profile, so I let it slide. But later, someone told me the real reason she was kicked out of the Harlows. It was because she acted arrogant and greedy. She relied on being their daughter and did all kinds of wrong things. The Harlows couldn’t stand it anymore, so they threw her out!
“And right around that time, she started getting close to Mason. Think about it–how could I allow someone like that to get involved with my grandson?”
Evan’s eyes turned sharp at once. He caught the key part of her words immediately. “Someone told you? Do you remember who told you that?”
“Well…” Wilda froze for a second. Her eyes flickered. Then she waved her hand, clearly annoyed. “That was so long ago. How would I remember? Anyway, it couldn’t have come from nothing.”
Evan’s heart sank.
He looked at her, feeling a deep sense of helplessness.
“Grandma, you misunderstood Amelia. Everything you heard was a lie.”
Wilda was about to argue, but Evan’s next words stopped her cold.
“Amelia’s background is not what you think. She did grow up with the Harlows, but she and their current daughter, Beatrice, were switched at birth in the hospital.”
