Chapter 666 Another Breaking News
Amelia’s body stiffened slightly in his arms.
She could feel that when he said that, the arm around her waist tightened a little more.

Mason sighed softly and stroked her long, smooth hair. He spoke more slowly. “I just noticed that seemed unhappy. Amelia, I don’t want you to suffer all this because of me.”

He paused. His dark eyes looked out the window at the deep night, as if he could see through the darkness to the big trap that had been waiting for a long time.
“Besides, this is an old grudge that the Everetts need to settle ourselves.”
“An old grudge?” Amelia looked up, looking confused. She caught the key words in what he said. “What do you mean?”
Mason looked down at her with complicated emotions flashing in his eyes.
“The person who went through so much trouble to set me up this time-I’m almost certain-is the same person, or the same group of people who caused Evan’s car accident back then.”
This guess made Amelia’s heart skip a beat.
Evan’s car accident had always been a scar for the Everetts. It turned out it wasn’t just a simple accident.
“After Evan got hurt back then, he and I secretly investigated for a long time. But the other side was extremely careful. They barely left any useful clues, and in the end, the case could only be closed as an accident.”
“For all these years, they’ve been hiding in the shadows. But now, maybe they think the time is right, or maybe my brother and I are in their way. They finally couldn’t hold back and made a move again.”
A cold smile appeared on his face. “That’s fine. He’s been hiding for so long, and now he’s finally leaving a trail on his own.”
Only then did Amelia understand.
From the start, Mason hadn’t just been reacting. He was using their plan against them, using himself as bait to lure out the person that had been hiding for years.
“Okay.” She nodded and looked back at him with clear eyes. “I’m not leaving.”
She held him tighter, using her warmth to comfort the heart that had been carrying too much alone, and said in the most serious tone, “Don’t worry. I might not be able to help much in business, but I will never become your burden.”
She would take care of herself and Nora so he wouldn’t have to worry about anything while he dealt with
the trouble outside.
Mason looked at the determination in her eyes and felt a soft spot in his heart.

Chapter 666 Another Breaking News
He knew she always meant what she said.
Peans.
There was no point in trying to talk her out of it anymore. Plus, deep down, he didn’t want her out of his sight for even a second.
“Okay.” He gave in, lowered his head, and kissed her forehead, as if sealing their promise. “Then you won’t leave.”
He held her face, gently rubbing it with his thumb. He told her seriously, “But promise me, no matter what mean things my grandmother says to you, don’t take them to heart. None of this is your fault, okay?”
“Okay,” Amelia nodded. Her eyes felt slightly warm.
Because of his warm and steady embrace all night, the self-doubt that had been weighing on her heart seemed to fade a lot.
For the rest of the night, she slept especially peacefully in his arms, without dreaming at all.
But even so, the storm in the real world didn’t stop for a second just because they had a moment of peace.
