Chapter 686 Foolish Fantasy

“The bank just called back,” the financial director said carefully. “Mr. Everett is classified as one of the bank’s highest-tier private clients. Unless there’s an official court order, his personal assets are considered protected property. No one has the authority to freeze them on their own.”
“Highest-tier private client?” Wilda repeated those words in disbelief.
But no matter how unwilling she was to accept it, she understood what that meant.
The Everett family was indeed an important client of that bank, but they were nowhere near important enough to receive that level of protection.
There was only one reason the bank would’ve responded so firmly.
The money in Mason’s personal accounts had already reached an unimaginable level. It far exceeded anything he could have earned simply as the CEO of Everett Group. And more importantly, none of it had anything to do with Everett Group.
When had he gotten so rich?
Unwilling to give up, Wilda immediately called the family lawyer.
“What about the house Mason lives in and the other properties under his name? Can we take them back immediately?” she practically shouted.
This time, the lawyer answered quickly, but his reply only made her feel more hopeless.
“Mrs. Everett, I’m afraid that won’t be possible. We already investigated. Every property under Mr. Everett’s name was legally registered as his personal private asset years ago. They were completely separated from the Everett family trust and company assets. Legally speaking, they all belong solely to him.”
Wilda froze.
Then she suddenly remembered something.
Long before Evan’s accident, Mason had quietly been doing business involving acquisitions, restructuring and resales.
Back then, she thought he was just bored and playing around. She had even believed he was neglecting serious responsibilities.
But now, looking back, those small projects she once looked down on had actually been his real plan all along.
For years, while carefully managing the massive Everett Group and creating enormous wealth for the family, he had also secretly used his unmatched business talent to build a commercial empire that belonged entirely to himself.
Every bit of those funds and investments had nothing to do with Everett Group. Everything was so clean and legally separate that Wilda couldn’t even find an excuse to sue him.

Wilda collapsed into her chair. Only now did she finally realize she had underestimated Mason from the very beginning.
She always thought she could control him forever. In reality, that belief had only been her own foolish fantasy.
While Wilda kept running into dead ends, Mason wasn’t sitting idle either.
Early the next morning, every major financial news outlet published the same carefully worded legal statement on their front pages.
Through his legal team, Mason officially announced that starting immediately, he would completely sever all ties with the Everett family and every company connected to them.
He would voluntarily give up all inheritance rights and formally cut ties with Wilda. From this point on. nothing involving Everett Group would have anything to do with him anymore.
Inside the CEO’s office at Everett Group, the once spotless desk had already been shoved aside.
Under Pedro’s orders, several movers were roughly carrying out boxes filled with Mason’s personal belongings and piling them in the hallway outside the office, waiting to throw them away.
“Hurry it up!” Pedro stood proudly in the center of the office, looking around the room that now truly belonged to him. “Burn everything! Don’t leave behind a single trace of him!”
Beyond the giant floor-to-ceiling windows was the bustling city skyline. And finally, he stood at the top of this business empire.
Just as Pedro finished enjoying his moment of triumph, his secretary hurried over with a report.
