Slade
95% of the pack had turned up to pledge loyalty to him and accept the new pack, the other 5% were the old pack’s leadership’s kin. Parents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters, cousins and nieces and nephews. They weren’t exactly sure if he would want them inside his pack, considering all that Roman and the leadership had done.
He’d thought about it. Did he want them here inside the Forest of Light? He had come to the conclusion that as long as none of them had any knowledge or anything to do with the goings-on of those out there on the shaming posts, he was fine with it.
Austin had suggested a seer be used to check that, but Sloan had thought it was unnecessary. She could check that with a simple question directed at them, she could pick a lie: Was a truth seer.
She’d asked each one of them the same question, and told them of the answer she expected them to give her as well. They all had to state “I had no knowledge of what the leadership did or was doing to this pack.
I was not a part of it.” most had frowned at her, and she’d smiled at them.
“I will be able to tell if you are lying about any part of the statement, please respond accordingly.” Sloan had questioned each one of them and all came back honest and true.
He’d felt relief wash through him, so it was just those out there on the shaming post that were rotten to the core. He smiled at them and told them he would accept them as regular pack members, warriors or elites. But their status as ranked members that could reside inside the packhouse was revoked. He would sort out accommodation for those that needed to move out of it.
But until then, they were allowed to remain in their suites, and they would all still hold their positions within the human world company that they worked in, and nothing would affect the wages that they earned. What was in their bank accounts would remain theirs, but he did ask them to return pack cards for those that held them.
He’d gotten a few frowns about that, but they’d all nodded, everything he knew would be closed down and cut off anyway, and he’d have to have all new pack cards issued once the paperwork was formalised and the full change over of the pack was completed.
There were a lot of things that had to happen here Inside this pack with him now being the Alpha, and the old pack abolished.
He’d announced to all those here that he had an Heir to the pack, his daughter Ocean, and that he was hoping they would all get to meet her soon. Though if they could have some patience with that, he would appreciate it, he did not want her to see the unpleasant business that was going on outside the front of the packhouse. She was just seven and not raised inside a pack.
That she would also likely smell human to them, but it was nothing to be concerned about. She was, as were her entire family, all wearing a scent masking device that allowed them to smell human. Something created by one of her aunts and had kept the five of them all safe out in the human world from male rogues.
They were all, also here with her. Ana, or as they would have known her as Oriana, was his daughter’s mother. The women and Ocean would be staying here, he hoped, up until the full moon. They were affiliated with Alpha Luna Sloan and Alpha Austin, considered extended family from what he could gather.
Then he told them all to go on home and get some rest. It was late, to please bear with the investigation that was still going on within the pack, it was likely to continue for several more days. Take the time to just spend it with their family and friends, and they were free to move about the pack once more.
Lindal had walked over to him and sighed a little, “Are they going to leave then, after the full moon?” she’d asked him directly. He knew why the question. She wanted her friend back here inside the pack.
“I do not know what their future plans are, Lindal,” he told her as the crowd was moving away “I have mentioned to Ana that I would like Ocean to hold the title of my Heir. That I believe she should become the next Alpha of this pack and I want that as well. There has been no decision made on that from my understanding. I am still getting to know Ocean and reacquainted with Ana once more.”
“Doesn’t she want Ocean to be an Alpha to a pack?” Lindal had frowned and seemed a bit confused. Most would want that for their child.
“No, they will do as they please, have more authority than even us on the Wolfen Council. Report directly to King Christian or his royal unit and will set themselves up as they see fit.”
He stood and watched as Austin walked over and greeted them, looked at the leader from where he stood, saw the markings on her forehead and wondered what that was all about. They were also carrying gear and short swords.
Her eyes moved over him and his unit as she spoke with Austin, there was no smile in greeting and as he looked at the entire group not one of them smiled, but they were all dressed alike. He caught the name Ryder when she greeted Austin and then waved her group away. “Go find a place to set up the tent.” She told them as she looked about “Away from everyone.”
He watched them all walk away, then her eyes were back on him, “Christian stated, play nice with the new Alpha. Betrayed by the former Alpha.” She nodded “I will respect that, Austin. It’s been a long journey well set up and get shut-eye. Brand the prisoners in the morning.”
That grabbed his attention, but he said nothing, as she turned and walked away from Austin, and he walked back to them. “Going to brand the prisoners?” Slade questioned.
“Mm, likely with a traitors’ mark, and something like that is decided by the King himself nowadays. He’s abolishing all the cruel old ways one at a time. Though I do believe he reserves the right to that one. It’s also not done with a hot iron brand anymore. Ryder took a page out of her former War General’s book and there is a new way of it being done. Come and watch in the morning. It’s an eye-opener.”
Slade nodded, he would be attending that, because he was curious about The Kings Eyes as well as who out of the eight out there were deemed to be traitors in their kings own eyes.
It wasn’t often one got to see The Kings Eyes here in the human realm, they, he thought, lived within the otherworldly realms only. Seems not anymore, maybe their new King was going to be extending his reach to punish those here in the Human Realm that breached his laws.
He was hoping that was a good thing, and he would likely get to meet the man at the next Annual Alpha Meeting within the Wolfen Kingdom. Now that he was an Alpha to a Pack, he would have to attend those.
