Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 82

Slade

He sat out on the training ground and watched as Vance and his little sister Sybil were out there putting Hayden through the Beta to Beta training that happened inside this pack. Their fighting style was different to what went on in Highland Hills. None of them were used to this type of fighting.

Hayden was out there trying to defend himself, blocking hits and kicks as best he could, but Sybil was going to make her Mate; when she got one, proud of her skills. She was fast and accurate.

The warriors here were trained in something called Hapkido, where they used spinning kicks, thrusts and sweeps, attacking their opponents’ nerves and pressure points, and they were big on wrist and joint locking moves. This was also combined with a circular motion redirection of an opponents force, to control their movements and get those hits in.

Vance was currently refereeing the match, and Sybil was winning by a long shot.

Back in Highland Hills, they were taught a combination of Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. To hit hard and make direct contact, to take down an opponent, to subdue them on the ground. Hayden was actually having a hard time grabbing onto Sybil and bringing her down to the ground.

It also wasn’t because Hayden couldn’t fight, he could; he had been training with Palmer and Yuri and now with him as well, and he didn’t go easy on the boy, none of them did. It was just they’d never come up against this type of fighting before. It was very interesting to watch.

So interesting, he got up himself “Hayden step out.” He called out, “I want a shot at Sybil, myself.”

He watched the girl smile up at him, “What do I get if I win?” she asked him right away.

“Hmm, how about the Gamma or Delta for a night?” He smiled and saw her look over to where Plamer and Yuri sat.

He took the opportunity to shoot forward and grab her, bring her down, used all his wolfen speed and heard her gasp in shock. He’d been watching her fight, the girl never stopped moving for very long, and the only time Hayden had been able to get a hand on her was when she did stand still.

“One point to me.” he smiled at her as he got up.

“You cheated.” She shot right up at him. “That’s not a point, Vance.”

“Hmm, seems to me little sister, in the real world, you just lost, so a point it is.”

He watched her raise her hands and waited. She also never struck first he’d noticed, waited to see what her opponent was going to do. What stance they took, and the style of fighting they used. She was looking for speed and reflexive dodging, to know when to get those hits into his pressure points, sweeping away his attack and crack her opponent with three quick successive hits to the open part of their body.

He heard Vance chuckle “Someone watched and learned.”

“That I did.” Slade smiled at the girl. “You’re fast and agile, I’m faster.” He told her and knew he was. The moment she shifted her footwork, he made his move, his hands were raised up like a boxer, but that he knew was what she was expecting. He dropped both his arms and as he dropped down low like he was going to leg sweep her, which she anticipated, and jumped up to go over it, he snagged her by the knee and shoved forward, fast and hard, and down she went.

He had a hell of a time actually keeping her pinned down to the ground, but did manage it. It was a good 5-minute battle between them for just one point. He stood up and laughed at her annoyed expression. It was a good match for him, Alpha to Beta. They set up again, and she got him twice in a row. The next one to win a point was going to win the match.

He’d been out there now for a solid 25 minutes, and they were both learning from each other.

Vance called it after another ten minutes and stated “It’s a tie.” He chuckled “I’m so telling dad you got your ass kicked.” He taunted his little sister as she walked off.

“You shouldn’t have called it.” she shot over her shoulder.

“She’s a damned good fighter,” Slade stated.

“Yes, one of our best, wants to be a War Gal.”

“She’ll make it.” he nodded “You up for a challenge?” Slade looked at Vance, they had all day to kill.

The man smirked at him, “That’s not a fair fight.” He turned and looked at Palmer and Yuri, “Though I’ll take them on if you like.”

His eyes moved to his Gamma and Delta, they were already up and coming this way, wanted to give it a shot themselves. “Two to One?” Slade asked him.

Vance smiled “Yep, who do you think Sybil loses to on a daily basis?”

That was something he also needed in his new Beta, considering that they wouldn’t be staying inside the pack. Once he had a proper trustworthy Beta, they were gone off to the East Coast to be out there physically hunting for Ori. If Vance was happy moving about, it was likely he was going to be okay with not sitting still inside a pack.

‘Fun, and you could definitely use that.’ Palmer stated.

Slade just shook his head a little. ‘Other than that?’

‘Happy, comfortable in his position as a third heir, got that free-spirited gypsy blood, so I don’t see him ever coveting something that’s not his. Too easy going. Yuri commented.

‘You think he’s the right fit, Slade?’ Palmer asked.

‘Maybe, we’ll have to get him alone, talk to him away from the pack and ours. Can’t mind-link to him for a private conversation.’ Slade murmured and he did want that.

‘That could be difficult.’ Yuri huffed ‘Though he’s got that gypsy blood, he could have that bonus mind-linking to anyone ability.’

‘Wouldn’t that be nice!’ Palmer nodded ‘have to ask him.’

‘I’ll get his number and try to set it up, if re both in agreement?’

There was silence from his Gamma and Delta for a long few minutes, and then they all saw Vance go running past the front of the pack putting a beat down on him, and

Slade shook his head, tormentative with bi about how he’d have to catch him first.

“Yes.” Both Palmer and Yuri stated together after laughing at Vance as well.
