Austin
Austin frowned at the sss that had just come through, knew it was from his curious friend, the attention line ready ‘Help needed.’ In bold read letters. And it read:
‘Hey Alpha Austin,
It’s burning hot here in Greenville; two she-wolves, one rogue Gamma-blooded and one… unknown if rogue or not?? I can’t figure her out, but she is Alpha-blooded. They’re being watched by two very well-dressed male rogues. Looks to be like they are going to be hunted and snatched. Both girls are asking for assistance.
I’ll do my best, try to have the human police detain them if I can. I’ll get the she-wolves out of Greenville if I can. Please send help, there’s only one of me, and I’m…well you’ve probably guessed, a she-wolf. I don’t really want to be snatched myself. Got me a fun life I like.
Sincerely yours, burning hot always in the winter.
P.S. Catch me if you can, you sexy beast grrr.’
He shook his head at the end of the sss, “A serious matter, but she can’t help to taunt me even now, she’s crazy.” He muttered to Brodey.
“She likes that you’re not able to find her.” Brodey snorted, “I’d bet she stands around, or sits around and watches you, and all of us trying and hunt for her.”
“She does,” he nodded, he did not doubt that at all. Enjoyed her little games with him. He pulled out his phone and dialled Alpha Everette. He was the closest pack to the town of Greenville. Explained the situation and had him take a unit of warriors into that town to help him track and capture the two male rogues, find out if they were part of the wolfen black market and to detain them for questioning by the council.
He also asked him to keep his eyes open for the she-wolves, being hunted and the one that reported it. Who lived in Greenville, and he admitted, eluded him at every turn, by scent masking herself and likely her place 24/7.
Everette had been quiet for a moment. “I’ve never smelled she-wolves in Greenville that aren’t part of packs local to the state.”
“I know, but she’s there, who knows for how long, plays with me via the intranet, this is only the second direct contact I’ve gotten from her over the years, and it’s the first time she’s stated she is a she-wolf herself. Is offering to help those two in trouble until I can get someone there.”
“A lone she-wolf and two male rogues?” he could hear the frown in Everette’s voice.
“Yes.”
“Her rank?”
“Your guess would be as good as mine. I’ve never laid eyes on her, but she has me, playing a game of hide and seek with me for years now. Thinks it’s very funny that I can’t find her. I doubt the rogues will if I can’t, but helping the other two, could bring her out into the open. I’d like you to, if you find her, snap me a picture or detain her if you can. Gently so she’s of no threat, living peacefully as a human. I’m just curious is all.”
“Odd,” Everette commented “I’ll set out now, my Beta is already organizing things.”
Austin thanked him and looked at his unit, “Time to pack.”
“Everette is never going to get her, not if we can’t, if she is willing to help she’s going to scent mask those two she-wolves just like herself.” Brodey stated.
“I know.” He stood up. “But she stated one rogue, one unknown, I think it’s going to be that, that Alpha-blooded female has no pack scent. What her research was about a while back.” He sighed to himself as they walked from the office, they really did need to get their hands on that she-wolf and attach her to a pack. She likely had no idea just how much danger she was in. Would sell for the highest of prices on the black market, he wondered just how old she was. Who her unknown father was.
“In real trouble then, we’ll be ready in 10 minutes.”
They arrived in Greenville before the sun rose, Everette had gotten there quickly enough to claim those detained rogues. He and his unit had simply sat themselves out the front of the police station and waited for them to be released. They’d hunted the car down, it was still up at the ski resort, and he had four wolves watching it, just in case they got away or there were more than the two reported.
The other eight wolves that he’d brought with him were prowling around the town trying to scent the female rogues, no such luck. The scent lingered a little at the resort, but didn’t go anywhere else. They’d tried to track it but found it only let into town, their scents however went where ever the photographers and others here on the filming crew went.
Everette was of the opinion that they were either part of the film crew, or one of the models being used. They’d been in town had coffee, and he’d spoken to the woman running the café. She’d answered all his questions about the film crew, they had come in for coffee, she was happy about the business, and getting to see her sister, who she hadn’t seen in ages, was one of the models.
He checked his sss for an update from his curious friend. There was nothing. He hoped she was alright, but that was all he could do until she was willing to talk to him and tell him who she was or where she was. He was hoping his helping her would bring about trust of some sort. So that one day they could meet.
Though it was now very clear that his curious friend was not out here to harm anyone, was in fact friendly, as she’d stated, and willing to help others in need as well, not just wolves but the humans too.
He stood and looked at the two rogue wolves in Everette’s cells, they didn’t seem phased by being in there. Both had even bowed their heads to him, he’d checked that accounting business they had, and it was legally registered with the Wolfen Council, and they paid their 10% of profits back to the council as was expected.
Stated they didn’t understand why they were being hauled in, had smiled at a few models at a photo shoot, and they’d gotten the completely wrong idea about them. They weren’t doing anything wrong, they had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Twice in one day, the same as a few of the photographers and models was all; just a sheer coincidence.
Neither of them seemed in the slightest bit concerned or appeared nervous, simply sat in the cells all casual like, expecting to be released when nothing came of the investigation. Everette had stated they’d walked out of the police station looked right at him and his men and just huffed, hadn’t even tried to run away. Just walked over to them and greeted him respectfully, stated” What’d we do to warrant your attention, Alpha?”
Everette had told them “You scared two of my she-wolves, running a mission in the human world for me. They thought they were going to be snatched by you. Put in a call to me about it.”
They’d denied it, and were still denying it, though with the way Everette handled things, he now couldn’t ask what those she-wolves looked like without those two knowing it was a lie. That annoyed him a little, and he’d walked out of the cells and muttered to Everette “I can’t ask for a description now, Everette, they’ll state you know who they are.”
“Mm, sorry about that, but I didn’t want them to be released, and go right back to hunting them. They know what those girls look like. It was the safest thing I could do for the two she-wolves, claim them as my own. You understand that, right?”
Austin nodded, he did understand it, it was just annoying to him. “Did you get the advertising company or photographers’ names? So I can check into that.”
“Yes, it’s the same advertising agent the ski resort always uses, one of the largest here in Maine; Jenkin’s Advertising.”
“Alright.” Austin nodded “I’ll look into it, release those two tomorrow, don’t treat them badly either. Technically, the fine print on this one says they did nothing wrong.”
“Sure, I’ll even have one of my men bring their car here for them to leave in.” Everette nodded.
