Slade
“Slade, you can not make that kind of decision, and this is certainly not the place or time to discuss it.” His father muttered as he looked about and realised there were a good 30 or 40 pack members standing watching on.
“Hmm, time or place?” he questioned right back, even as his father turned and walked away with his unit, and Bronnie got pulled along by Anders, muttering it should be done in the Alpha’s office.
He, however, didn’t follow, stated “Actually, I think it is a very fitting time and place… The day before, a full moon…on the packhouse front steps for all to see.”
“Son please.” It was his own mother.
Slade’s eyes moved to her, she’d been part of Ori’s demotion in this very manner. “What mother! Don’t you approve? I believe you approved father doing it this way to Oriana… I see no difference.” He told her “Do you?” he questioned right back. Knew a part of him was trying not only to get them to see how wrong it had been, but to actually admit what they’d done, how they’d done it, was very wrong.
She stood frowning up at him, she was the only one left out there looking at him. He walked right over to her mouth to her ear. “Yes, mother. I learned from all of you. Now it’s your turn to suffer like I did, like Oriana did.” Then he stepped around her, as she turned her eyes upon him.
“You’ve become bitter, Slade.” She frowned at him.
“I wonder whose fault that is. A lousy Luna or an unworthy Alpha?” He commented.
She gasped out in shock, at the full insult for all around to hear, to her and her Mate. “I could punish you for those very words.” She rapped out.
“Hmm and I could!” he turned and looked at her “Out your underhandedness to the entire pack and see how they feel.” He smiled at her widened eyes “Would you like that mother?” he asked and turned to face where he was walking once more; to the Alpha’s office where his father had retreated.
He saw Bronnie over with Hayden by the stairs that led up to the other floors. “Oh! Bronnie, go and pack your son up and remove him from the Beta Suite…” he stopped walking. “Oh wait.” He snorted just a little “He’s already been packed up and moved out today.” He looked at Hayden’s shocked expression. “You can find your belongings down in the basement I believe.”
“What?” Hayden gasped. “You can’t do that, you don’t even have the code.”
“Don’t I? And I can, I’m the future of this pack, and you’re now…nothing at all.” he smiled to himself.
He’d organised that through Derby and those two omegas that Hayden, himself, had injured in the school cafeteria.
Derby had told Palmer and Yuri when he’d gotten out of the cells that he didn’t want anything, though he’d gotten a brand new dirt bike from Slade and the boys. Then he had told them he’d just like to help out if they ever needed him for anything, he could help to pay that boy back.
Told them they’d all only been talking about Ori that day because she helped tutor the omegas and a few others that needed it. That was why they missed her. They needed her help with their school work. It had nothing to do with Hayden or Ori and the position os the Beta heir.
Derby was also now dating the older of those omegas, Anika, and she’d been happy to help clear out that boys’ room. It was her grandmother that was in charge of who cleaned the Alpha floor’s rooms, and she’d been more than happy to give the code to Anika this morning, so he could be packed up and moved out of the suite.
He had more allies in this pack than his own father knew, and it was all down to how he had demoted Ori, that very day, and the way Hayden had gone about lording himself over the pack for that year, Slade had been at Alpha College. They didn’t want a Beta like that being in charge when Slade took over, and left the pack without his Beta, who would be in charge if Slade wasn’t there.
He heard the hurried footsteps going up the stairs, and smiled as he walked into his father’s office, knew Vance, Palmer and Yuri were all trailing him as per protocol, heard Yuri close the door even.
Hayden wouldn’t be able to open the door to even step inside that suite. He’d had the code for it changed to only something he and the boys knew, well with the acceptation of Anika and her grandma, now, who were in charge of those four suites as of today. He’d also approved a bump in pay for the two of them.
“Son, I’m not…”
“You have no choice.” Slade cut him off. “The pack laws states, that I, as the heir to the pack, can choose who is part of my unit. So I actually can. Vance here is the future Beta now.”
“As I can, change my heir anytime I like.” his father stated right back.
And there it was, that one thought he’d had about Hayden being more important than even him, the actual future heir to the pack. “Is Hayden your illegitimate son with Bronnie? But bled to the Beta line so no one knows father?” he put out there casually.
He shook his head. There had to be something going on there with that boy, and his father was avoiding it. “None of you can beat Vance in a fight and, as the heir, I get to have a proxy if you want to challenge me, any of you.” he leaned himself back comfortably on the couch “I chose wisely, knew this was going to happen, that Hayden was going to be your preference, even over me, your eldest son. Though I’m not here to overthrow you, father.” His eyes moved to Anders. “Just here to remove a bloodline that now displays traitorous tendencies, in its only heir.”
“He’s not a traitor,” Anders stated angrily.
“Hmm, that is your opinion, now father.” He returned his attention to the man. “You need to initiate Vance into the pack. He is my choice as per the pack law. I choose Vance as my future Beta for this pack.”
“And if I don’t?”
“I’ll force your hand.” Slade shrugged. “Much the same way you did mine.”
“And just how will you do that?” His father stated, folding his arms across his chest.
“You do realise I’ve got dirt on all of you. I can have the pack’s elders come in here, Ori’s own grandmother, and tell them all of what you did, to her, to me. I think, father, you breached not just pack laws, over the course of how many days? But actual Wolfen Laws, handed down to us from the king himself.”
“We have dealt with that already. Had a deal, and you punished all of us as you saw fit.”
“Mm, and got away with it because you all know you’re in the wrong, and I have that knowledge up my sleeve to hold over you for… Oh, forever now. As for a deal! Did we?… I do recall I promised only to train Hayden, nothing more. Which I did, proper training. I, however, never once stated that I would officially take him as my Beta.”
He could see them all just staring at him now, a long quiet minute of silence as they all tried to recall his actual words that day, the so-called deal was made. He knew what he’d said because he would never take Hayden as his Beta.
“It was implied.” His father finally grated out.
