Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 98

Slade

He was in the nightclub with Vance, Palmer and Yuri, they were out there on the dance floor having a good time, hanging out with his social group, laughing and dancing, drinking, though he’d noted none of them were drunk.

At times, they were just sitting around one of the tables chatting and Vance was shaking pack members’ hands and telling them he was happy to be here as the future Beta. Chatting about where he came from, and some talked to him about the training they’d been a part of last time he was there.

None here in the nightclub, seemed at all upset about the change of Beta for the future of the pack, and he knew that was because Hayden had made his bed, and now had to lay in it, that boy shouldn’t have been power hungry and lorded it over those around him. Then maybe some of these wolves would be unhappy about the changeover.

He was headed for the bathroom when Hayden was suddenly in front of him. “You just had to take everything away from me, for her, didn’t you!” he grated out “She’s not even worth it.”

Slade held in the need to punch this wolf before him, “Yes,” he stated without hesitation, “You got what you deserved.”

“I deserve that title, I’m father’s only son and heir.” Hayden snarled “Now, you’ve gone and made me nothing inside this pack.” he shoved Slade “I can never be stepped back up into the Alpha Unit.”

Slade snapped both his hands out into the boy’s chest and slammed him back against the wall, “I know that, it was my purpose.” He informed the boy.

Beta’s only heir, I was your Beta for two years.” He struck out at

“How could you do that to Slade, who dodged out of the way.

Slade and Hail grabbed that boy by the arms and slammed him up against the wall, held him right there against it as the music in the club suddenly stopped, and the place started to quiet down around them, as he leaned his face up close to Hayden’s “Is it painful?” He grated out “Does it hurt?

“he snarled at him and yanked him off the wall and slammed him up against it once more. “I hope it hurts, I hope it’s the worst thing you’ve ever felt in your life.” He slammed him up against that wall again “Because this is how you all made her feel.” Slammed him against the wall once more “How you made her feel every fucking day of her life.” He snapped a knee into the boy’s rib cage “Trying to steal her rightful place as my Beta.” He snarled.

“It’s my rightful place, it was never hers.” Hayden roared at him. “I’m the firstborn son.”

“She’s the firstborn and was who I wanted.” Slade roared right back.

“Oh I know you wanted her,” Hayden snarled up at him “You got to fuck her too. She’s just a fucking…”

Slade’s eyes met Hayden’s as the boy stalled in what he was going to say, and a nasty smile formed on Slade’s face. “Go on Hayden, say it.” He dared the boy “Give me a solid reason to rip your head off right here and now.”

“I hope you never find her.” Hayden grated out at him. “Or that bastard pup of yours either.” he snarled. “They don’t belong here inside the pack.”

“You dare to insult her, insult her child?” he snarled, a hand snapping to the boy’s neck.

“I do, she’ll now be seen how I want, as the…”

Slade lifted him up off the ground. He was going to strangle him to death right here in front of everyone if he said one more word “Say it, your own father will punish you, likely take you head off himself.” He snarled “Say it.” he roared at him.

Then he heard Hayden’s voice laughing down the mind-link ‘No he won’t. I’m his heir, she is nothing to him.’

Slade hissed in pain as the mind-link severed and felt a set of claws dig right into his side, tear through his clothing and skin, push between his ribs and puncture his lung. He could feel his arm that had hold of Hayden weakening, and he dropped him to the floor so he could breathe once more.

He managed to get a strangled half laugh out, “Oh you are a traitor now, you just attacked your future Alpha all claws out.” His eyes moved to Vance, as he saw that man step up next to him, and grab Hayden by the throat himself.

Slade felt those claws retract from him and his lung collapsed, he felt it, the shortness of breath, the pain from the injury as he stood there looking at the other pack members here inside the club, as his own hand moved to his rib cage. Everyone in here was standing staring at them.

He felt himself starting to double over as he struggled to breathe, and his lung felt like it was burning inside of him as he struggled to breathe, “Cells.” He gasped out at Vance, as Palmer stepped up to also grab hold of that boy. No, not a boy, a traitor.

“I hope you never find Oriana and your pup Slade.” Hayden yelled at him for all to hear. The news was out and those around him were staring at him now. He heard a few gasps and saw many wide sets of eyes on him as they realised what had truly happened that day. All he’d lost.

“Hospital,” Yuri stated.

His father was suddenly in the doorway staring at him “Morgan?” he rapped out.

“Five penetrating wounds, Roman, four of them passed through the rib cage and into the chest cavity, healed over already by Hail, but as you can clearly see by the asymmetrical shape of the chest now, he’s got a collapsed lung. I’ll remove the air, might need to insert a tube yet have to wait and see how the needle aspiration goes first.”

“Do it already.” Slade muttered.

“You’re alright Slade, try and stay calm, this” he held up a long needle to him “Is going to hurt as well. A local anaesthetic to help you not feel the needle aspiration, which could take up to an hour depending on how much air is in there and shouldn’t be.”

Slade didn’t really care about what he was being told, he just wanted to be able to breathe normally again. He felt that needle being inserted into him, and gritted his teeth as it pushed through the muscles to get to the spot needed to numb the area,

“Is it true? Who did this to you…” his father asked.

“It was Hayden.” Yuri answered for him “I got videos of the altercation from those in the night club, many saw it. Hayden stepped up to Slade first. I saw that myself.”

He was positioned for that procedure and just tried to breathe as best he could. He didn’t feel any pain, but there was constant pressure during the 45 minutes it took for him to feel better and Morgan to remove that needle from him.

“Slade, I’ll need you to be here for a few hours still, I’ll come back and check on you in two hours,” he stated as he looked at the Ob’s machine, his heart rate had calmed to 80 beats a minute and his oxygen was up to 95%, and he could breathe normally. “We’ll monitor your oxygen if you start to feel uncomfortable, and you have breathing difficulties again, I want you to tell the nurse right away.”

“You do this a lot, don’t you.” Slade stated.

“Yes, most injured wolves after battle come here for this very reason. It’s one of the things a wolf can’t heal. So a doctor learns quickly to have trays prepared for it at all times. It’s not so fun for you.”

“No.” Slade agreed.

Morgan clapped him on the shoulder, “Rest up, I’ll be back to check on you later.”
